Description Because the bones of his front legs are so delicate, Klak Klak must always land on his hind legs first while running. Jumping is tricky. Compared to other canines he is somewhat slow and so relies on stealth more than agility when hunting. But, of course, his preference is for food that's already dead.

Quickie run cycle for Klak Klak. Sorry it's kind of sloppy. I just wanted to finally get this down.

Really cool how you created your own run cycle ^^

Awesome! His gait actually kind of reminds me of how an arab horse canters.

Awesome that you've modified a wolf's run to keep his legs safe - intriguing ^^

This was done on the computer, but I always catch myself going into a trance-like state staring at animation cycles on the pencil tester. XD

this is really great... If you only focus on the front half of his body it really looks like a crow jumping (well aside from how long it seems to jump every time)... (or is it ravens that jump, and crows that walk? whatever)
it looks really good!

X'D Haha, I think they both walk and jump. I don't know so much about ravens, but I've seen crows do both. And thank you! That's an interesting insight.

I was actually going to say canines run on their front legs then back legs, not both, but then I read your description. That's really neat that you actually thought about his ability to run rather than go-with-the-flow and make him run normally. I can see him hop-jumping on his back legs and using his front legs to defend himself against predators or other problem creatures!

Oh! XD That's a cool visual image. I'm sure his talons could do a bit of damage.

I'm glad you think so! I can't stop thinking of it in my head, so would you mind if I were to draw it? I'm even more inspired since I saw his refsheet!

I gotta question :3

Most birds have a reflex to automatically close the claws when bending their legs during sleep, etc. (hope you know what I mean, can't find the right words XD)
does Klak Klak have this reflex too? :3

"When a bird lands on a perch, a tendon in the back of its leg tightens so the toes lock. This involuntary reflex keeps a sleeping bird from falling off a perch. The bird simply stands up and straightens its legs to unlock the tendon." -- [link] Right?

I'll have to think about this. Klak Klak never really perches, as his weight would make it impractical. But obviously not all his traits are evolutionarily sound, so he may have this reflex. Especially if his front legs have the anatomy of a passerine.

Ooooooh, I've never heard of that! Actually, the only birds I can picture sleeping are owls and ducks. I know owls stand on one leg, and rest the other on their "knee" but I have no idea what bird feet do when they lay down on top of them. x'D But I'm intrigued.

awesome animation! the only thing is the head needs to bob down a little more

Lyrak In reply to wolfgod1st [2010-05-31 13:17:41 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, if you're basing the foreleg movement on birds rather than canines, it looks right to me. The head bobbing down would imply more weight is being put onto the forelegs, which as the description states, he can't do.

So I think in that context it makes sense, since it's not a normal canine movement.

wolfgod1st In reply to Lyrak [2010-06-02 06:27:09 +0000 UTC]

i think your right, though i still think the head needs to at least move forward a bit (but not on the landing on the part where the front legs are coming up) cause animals when they run don't keep there heads in one place

KlakKlak In reply to wolfgod1st [2010-05-31 09:47:46 +0000 UTC]

Mm, yeah. It had more movement initially, but it looked even funkier. :\ I think I'm going to redo this at some point with pencil and paper. For some reason it's easier for me to imagine movement that way than when I'm animating on the computer.
