So this one was a fun one to do. I consider it my contribution to a hashtag I’ve seen popping up on Instagram -- #wearadamnmask .

I really like how her hair turned out, though I didn’t get the undercut to appear exactly how I wanted it to. But nonetheless, I’m happy with it. It was fun to play with the shadows, too, since getting the highlights I wanted in her hair meant creating some pretty drastic shadows across her face.

I wanted to go heavier with her tattoos as well, but I realized that the farther down her arm they went, the more it drew the viewer’s eye toward her unfinished form. So I just stuck with two, the wiccan symbols for “Truth” and “Success”, the former of which, I think, is the only way we’ll get to the latter when dealing with COVID.

So, wear a mask. Wash your hands. And remember – in the eyes of the virus, you’re not special. It’ll smash you with as little concern as it would anyone else.

Disclaimer: I’m red-green colorblind. Because of this, it’s difficult for me to tell similar shades/hues of different colors apart, and, therefore, I need to work with very limited palettes when I color pieces. For shading and highlights, I’ll start with a gray base and lighten or darken shades from there, and then add a color overlay (and, for some skin tones, attempt to add a blue overlay to make it less “hot”). I’ve often been told to be bolder in my highlighting and shading, and I’m trying to be so, but… sometimes it still seems pretty tame. I’m just saying this in case you mentioned I need to do that on a previous piece – I’m not ignoring you, and I appreciate the input. It’s just not very easy for me to implement confidently.
