Oof. Yeah. the 2003 anime got pretty crazy and weird.
Brotherhood is tons better, imo. I think the tone is a lot better. Lighthearted sometimes, but still plenty serious when it needs to be. Anime just ends up better when it follows the manga, generally speaking. But I understand why the 2003 one went differently. I'm glad I got to see Brotherhood first.
