I liked that the Rise turtles were all different species, it makes for more interesting design elements. I wanted to essentially make a redesign for the turtles, mostly a mix between 2012 and Rise, but leaning more into 2012 cuz there's nothing I want to mess with in the Rise turtles. So I wanted to make them different species. Most are pretty similar to the Rise species.
Leo=Cumberland Slider, Donnie=spiny softshell(same as in Rise), Mikey=Midlands Painted Turtle, Raph=Common Snapper.

It was just supposed to be redesigns, but it's sorta turning into an AU. I find Donnie and April's relationship in 2012 pretty awkward, so I'm thinking of ways to fix it. I think they need to have some common interests, so April is big into either biology or chemistry. Leaning towards biology, then she could be fascinated by mutants. Donnie's main interest is mechanics and computers, but he's into any type of science. But some sort of sciency thing would give them something to bond over.
I'm also designing an Angel/Kendra hybrid character to include. 2012 Purple Dragons were always a low-level threat, so I wanted to make them a bit more of one. I liked that they sorta worked for Shredder in 03, so I figured the purple dragons could be the New York branch of Shredder's international criminal empire. Then there's a bunch of kids who either join the gang themselves, or their parents are part of it. Angel/Kendra is really into hacking, so she does that for them. She also likes to recruit innocent kids via a school club and fool them into unknowingly committing crimes. There could be an arc where Donnie ends up being one of the kids who is duped because he's just excited to have some tech whiz "friends", and April gets worried he doesn't want to spend time with her since that's not what she's good at. Little self-conscious nerd. Also thinking that mutants are starting to become more normal because more and more people are getting mutated cuz of Kraang activities, which could be why Angel/Kendra doesn't have an issue with the whole mutant turtle situation. She's also still just a kid, so she could get a redemption arc later.

But...yeah. That's what's been occupying my mind lately. Still lots of kinks to work out, but I enjoy it.
