i'm pretty much disappointed lately by all the people who prefer positive themes in photography. vivid warm colors, smiles and all that c--p. and they're not saying it out loud of course, they just tend to

wow i think youve really created the atmosphere you were going for.
its rather a haunting picture
she has such a thin figure.
and the extra long fingers.
creepy but without being the typical japanese thriller style.

This is amazing.
I love the astmosphere and everything, it creates an awesome haunting effect.
It looks like her fingers are longer than normal, which also adds the the weird/unsettling-ness. lol.
Great work

I think the happy people favourite the tanned girl in the orange bikini and the people who feel a bit on the edge of life, who want people to understand their dark side, fave like crazy gothic and dark stuff,
but what should be faved is talent,
and all your pictures are incredibly good, including this fabulous dark piece, everything has its right place

Absolutely beautiful! And, as much as I agree about the orange swimsuits, is it going to change? I think there are a lot of people who do understand art on a different level, and they're the ones that I care about. Good work!!

Kostassoid In reply to yelhalk [2009-08-17 04:46:43 +0000 UTC]
no, of course it's not going to change. and you're right, there're people who can enjoy what i do and that's important. but i know i'd prefer not to see most of the images on most photo-sites. including dA, but i have this option here browsing only the galleries and the favorites of my friends
thank you!

i think this is beautiful and dynamic. I think in different times different things are favored. But overall something more emotional and full of feeling or thought will last in someones mind much longer then a tan girl in an orange bathingsuit

nothing wrong, that people just can't accept other's opinion and vision. Beauty exist in everything, but unfortunately only few of us can see it. Crowd will bw crowd, so 'em.
Anyway, I like this photo.

This is brilliant and terrifying; Great contrast of the hands and torso against the sky.
It's also inspiring my imagination to run off into little stories as well, awsome :]

Hmm, it seems to me that high art is always and without fail dark, sad, melancholic, sinister, evil -- in short it is unhappy and negative. Remember, I'm talking about the kind of art that gets discussed in serious newspapers or analyzed by academics. I have never in my life found literature, movies or paintings of a very high level of intelligence and craftsmanship that where happy and friendly in outlook. Art appears to be about the pain in life.
It is only commercial art or fan art, as you find it here on deviantART, that is often happy and joyful in nature. And I like that. Life is itself negative enough. Why would I want to be masochistic or depressive and think about pain and sadness all the time? When I create art, when I read a book or watch a movie or look at paintings, I prefer to be reminded of how life could be like. I like to imagine, how people could life with each other, how there could be love and laughter.
I don't see what is wrong with that. But maybe you can explain to me, how you will show your art to your little son and daughter (if, sometime in the future, you have one), and how you will show them how to become successful, able, and happy persons from learning the lessons of your art.
In short: What is there in your art, that is useful for my life?

Kostassoid In reply to manfredkooistra [2009-08-06 22:12:43 +0000 UTC]
i can't agree with you. art is about life, a serious art that is. and life's a bitch but there're many well known pieces about simple joys or some peaceful things. and i don't mind them at all! althought i can't enjoy them as others seem to. i was bashing only meaningless crap the whole point of which is the fact it has a positive subject.
do your really think i am a masochist? i want to be happy. but i express myself through darker images. i've seen the most positive people in tears so i know there's a darker side in everyone. but i don't believe images like that bring any pain, but many can enjoy them as an art, i have no idea why and how. but that's good, right?
and for me there's no great goal in all this, i make it for myself, i feel happier that way, and it makes me successfull. i'd gladly share this experience with my children when and if i'll have some. actually my mother enjoys my art too and i guess she knows what's bad for me.

ok sorry, but Im too lazy to write 100 words for criticize
Graceful and dark, yes, you matched. close or far the photo works. But, Master Kostas, come on, blur around the fingers cause of the stretch?? did you stretch the chest too, cause I know that VB got a long one. And I dont like the ravens around, yes they are suspended like the main model, but seems too much suspended, liks pins on the wall. and by the way, Im a great fan of your work and of VB too. Would you allow me to work on the original picture, only for you and VB, not for my gallery
π: 0 β©: 2
Kostassoid In reply to OutfernO [2009-08-06 21:50:04 +0000 UTC]
jeez, man, blur and everything, how could you see all that? i haven't seen it even on a print version. but i've checked, the blur is actually from the original photo, i know it's stupid to shoot dynamic stuff in the dark, sorry. and i probably will remake the birds but for the whole other reasons.
the thing is, it doesn't matter. i retouch my images until i believe in the story i've created, after that, if it happens, everything else doesn't matter. it's like if you happen to fall in love with an ugly girl, she's not ugly to you anymore that's how it is for me (with photography, not girls
). if this image doesn't work for you it's ok, maybe next time. thanks anyway!
and sorry, i can't give away the original picture, this is all too serious for me and i worked really hard on this one. you noticed some things i've done but the whole image's basically a lie.

this is absoloutley gorgeous, makes me think of something out of the ring. very beautiful. lighting is beautiful, very soft. your art is very much an inspiration to me.
i know how you feel with happy art thing, i often have people tell me "my thats such a beautiful painting, but, its a little morbid, dont you think?" or "i would but that from you, but you ruined it when you put the spikes on."
most people really just want pretty pictures, they really arent interested in something with raw meaning in it. i believe people need to be more accepting of different themes, its harder to produce an image that conveys a negative theme, happiness is easier to portray for the most part.
a smile and bright eyes says im joyfull, but how do you successfully tell someone your life is falling apart, and have them understand it from the moment their eyes touch the image.
