Description
Vindicators was a comic strip that Geoff Pearson and I created for a short lived Indie Comic a few years ago. The plot was essentially a mix of super-heroes and sci-fi, with this team fighting off an invasion. This is an old pic (my character anatomy has (hopefully!) gotten a lot better since this) but I get all nostalgic seeing it - one day I'll go back to it! Colouring was by the always excellentRelated content

Cool teamwork, I'll admit Vigil does look a bit anxious.

She does! This is another really old piece - My art has moved on quite a lot since then (I hope!) but it's nice to have a reason to look at it again though!

just for the sake of it, I think (when you have the time...) that you should redraw this. a lot of interesting looking characters here.

Thanks! The character of Vigil has evolved quite a bit since these stories, but I may well revisit some of these characters later on - if not as a team, then Vigil may well drop in on one or two of them seperately in the Cranky Octopus series... who knows? Dave the magician and Balthasar the Cat were always fun characters, and Flare is visually a great character. Just depends whether I come up with a story worthy of them!

Thanks for the kind words and the ! This is a pretty old pic, but if you're interested in finding out a bit more about this team and how they kind of evolved into my Vigil story, fave a look at the 'Evolution of Vigil' pages in the 'Extras' section of the Cranky Octopus website!

- I really appreciate you taking an interest in my stuff!
As for the Vindicators, this was an old project that Geoff Pearson and I created years ago for a small press comic we were a part of. It lasted five issues and while we never went back to it, Vigil - the girl in white - I developed into a solo character and I post a new page of her story over at our website every monday. [link]
The characters here are (from left to right)... Flare - a mutant thief, Dreadnought (a kind of rookie Iron Man), Paragon (wonder woman with a sword!) Dave (out of his league sorceror's apprentice), Metatron (mysterious mute assassin) and Vigil on the end!
There's more on the Vindicators in the 'Evolution of Vigil' features on the Cranky Site - [link]

Vigil with short hair. Very cute lol.
Great artwork, I dig the idea.
Maybe when you recreate the new Vindicator, Joe should be in there.
lol, no im kidding.

LOL He has enough to do surviving the next chapter - he's in a pretty bad way (I think Ritualist kept smashing his head into trees when he was carrying him to the heroe's base!)
I've often thought about going back to Vindicators, but as most of the characters were co-created with Geoff Pearson, I always felt that unless he was on board, then I wouldn't feel right about using them.
For more on 'short hair Vigil' (!) Check out the 'evolution of Vigil' pages on the Cranky Octopus website! There are four parts - here's a link to the first one: [link]

Why do all the no name characters look so confident but Vigil is so frighten, as if to say, "Who are all you people?!!?!"

This is an old, old picture! It was before I developed Vigil to be a solo character and the emphasis was much more on the team. Vigil was a very different character back then!

I still like this. It was the first colour job where I had to colour a detailed background so I still have vivid memories of colouring this monster. lol. I seem to recall that I was pretty giddy about how that small fire turned out. I used the smudge tool for the first time woo hoo! God bless photoshop 4. lol.

If this was your first background it didn't show. I can remember seeing it for the first time on the back cover of Pulp Kitchen and thinking how amazing you made it look!

I love your commic book style. I used to make commic books as a kid. I had a couple storylines. but they never got much further than pencil drawings.

Thanks Mark! It was always a problem finding enough time to finish comic strip stories - one of the reasons that I'm writing over at Next X Comics is that I don't have time to do a regular sequential art strip - but maybe one day! Thanks so much for taking the time to post here - comments very much appreciated.
