do you not outline some of your paintings? Like would you just make pencil lines darker? I am recently getting into watercolor and your work is incredible ^_^

Question ~ When u paint it like every time u add somthing new do you let the paint before dry? I tend to have a huge problem when it comes to painting at one point all the colors just tent to mix together...

You let the watercolours dry, unless you do want them blending together in places- it creates a neat effect once you figure out how to control it!
It gets pretty annoying waiting for it, so I like to carefully work on another part of the painting or just on another doodling piece at the same time. If that isn't possible- which is seems to be a lot, ugh- hairdryers work wonders! Try to set it on the lowest heat setting, especially if you have masking fluid or masking tape on the paper.
I hope that helps! c:

The paper does go bumpy a little bit but I keep it under a heavy book afterwards and it flattens.

So, I have a question, what are soluble ink pencils?

They are like colour pencils that dissolve in water.C:

omg... LOL I wish I had seen this several hours earlier! I wondered how some people do those multi-color blended backgrounds (but not as complicated as with the patterns here). And I did a total fail because I didn't realize they could be layered washes XD! Well, at least I know now.
If you do more tutorials, another person who will appreciate them right here *raises hand and waves desperately*.

Do you usually keep the paintings in the sketch book, or do you take them out when you're finished?I keep taking them out because the paper gets bendy from the paint and such,but it would be nice to have them all in one place ;u;

Sorry for the late reply.
I actually use separate sheets of watercolour paper, once finished I put them into a folder. ^^

I want to ask if it would be possible to do the same process, like you did here with water colors, with markers?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
koyamori In reply to Penlink [2010-04-30 00:05:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah you definitely could. C: I think it would be easier to do patterns with marker.

Penlink In reply to koyamori [2010-05-03 01:24:18 +0000 UTC]
I think you are right about it being easier with the markers to make patterns. Although I think it's a little tough to do an undercolor with them. then to stack another color on them.
Thanks for replying back by the way!

this tut really helped me, but i must ask, i have no computer-image-editing-program so when i work on a watercolor painting how to i keep consistancyin color especially when iy comes to skin tones? i hope my question makes sence....
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
koyamori In reply to JenboofRussia [2009-07-02 16:35:26 +0000 UTC]
Do you mean shading skin with colours that are suitable to the entire picture?
First, what you can do is an underpaint, a layer of light colour for the entire picture. (Dilute the watercolour a lot.)
Then, when you're layering on paint to shade/ deepen colours, see what hues are predominant in the picture.
If you want a relatively uniform look, you can use a diluted version of the predominant colour to shade the skin. (For example, there's a lot of purple, so you would mix a bit of purple with the original skin colour.)
I hope that's the right answer to your question. :3
