The artwork was absolutely wonderful.
the comedic touch to the picture, and the pinkie-pie frisbee that landed for some apparent reason on celestias horn, made her spill her drink and drop it on the magazine she was reading. holy pony this was a picture that made me LMFO (Laugh my flank off).
from the artistic perspective, it should be on the louvre, right next to the mona lisa, as this painting is just masterfully designed and painted. also, pinkie pie doesnt look like she's happy when she's actually supposed to be. that adds a little grain of fear to what celestia might do to them for this unexpected event.
also, the originality is... 100%. i gotta give it that.
as said, this painting is a masterpiece and should have its own spot in the louvre. preferrably next to the mona lisa.

This is my first critique, so... Well, here I go! I just have to say to you: I'm brazilian, so maybe my english was a little bit wrong. Hope you apologize me for this.
When I see you picture, I have to control myself to don't laugh. It's SO funny, so original! Your style, your colors made the picture look like in the comic book. You use the black with the right intensity for the shadows. Luna's expression... OH GOD, PLEASE, I WILL DIE FOR CUTENESS. When I'm sad Iwill look for this picture, it's so, so, colorful and beautiful!

This picture is utterly jaw-dropping! The colours are all so vibrant and stand out, this picture being able to easily catch my eye. And the way Pinkie and Dashie are acting, it's like they think that they're gonna get punished for what they've done. The facial expressions fit unbelievably well with Luna breaking into tears of pure laughter, Celestia looking pissed like all hell ( probably explaining Pinkie and Dashie's feelings ), Dashie looking all embarrassed and Pinkie looks like she would rather die than go through this. ( Though she may also think that's going to happen to her anyway. ) Overall, you can easily see that ALOT of effort was put into this and with me being a 12 year old artist, this is something to strive and aspire to. Keep up the undeniably gorgeous work! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

This is quite good! I've seen a lot of things that catch my eye, and things like this would be one of them! I like the bright colors, the character's expressions just overall how the art is has been created. I'm a pencil and paper artist, and seeing stuff like this makes me think to myself, "Man...I'm gonna be like this some day!".
Again the colors, as well as the lighting, shading, and the anatomy of the ponies are perfect, and it really does outmatch people like me.
I hope you continue to make amazing stuff for us all to look and be amazed at!

irst of all, this is an exceptional piece. I must admit, I smiled when I saw this. Your shading is fabulous, (The suggestion of weight on the edge of the pink towel is just mmm, good stuff) your color is mostly good (More on that later) and the interplay of expression on Dash and Celestia's face really sells this piece. Now, you asked for a critique and not a gush (though I am VERY tempted to simply gush) so I am going into my nitpick mode.
Vision:
Many artists out there can render an epic battle or cute pony, but have trouble with actually drawing a scene. By actually rendering a scene, I mean telling a story aside from "this is a battle" or "this is a cute pony". No such problems here. The picture sells itself and showcases a humorous moment beautifully. It is clear that you started with a story, and faithfully carried it to completion.
Originality:
There are an innumerable amount of pony beach scenes. I would venture to say that a beach scene is overdone, perhaps even more so to you, KP. You have more happy-pony-on-the-beach scenes then I have finished drawings! However with the inclusion of this priceless moment, (Dash's face! Daww!) You manage to stand out, even from yourself, and make this one memorable. However, I would try a change of scenery for your next few pieces. Perhaps the mountains?
The other thing that makes this stand out is the change from your usual style. I can honestly say I prefer your comic-esque lineart to your more painterly approach, and it is refreshing to see the stretching of artistic muscles in an artist I admire.
Technique:
I feel really bad for saying what I'm about to say, because I am a very humble budding artist. Keep in mind that this is worthy of the MLP comics as is, and I'm just looking for things that you can improve on later.
What is the sequence?
The ball is stuck on Celestia's horn, in addition to knocking down her drink.
What? How?
For the ball to be popped on her horn, it needs to have hit it at a downward angle with decent force. I'm going to assume that Celestia was holding her drink in a normal position and not over her head or a couple feet out. With this being the case, there are very few ways the ball could spill the drink and still have the force and angle needed to stick on Celestia's horn. For some reason, this threw me a little. It is a small nitpick (Like all of the things in this most excellent piece) but if this was a storyboard, you would need to work out a better sequence.
-
The lineart on Luna's top back hair is off. The line to the right of the umbrella handle is to thick for the rest of the hair. If this was traditional, it would be ok, but in digital, you could have easily changed it to a less thick and rounded line.
The palm that Pinkie Pie is hiding behind is off. It is tilted so the top faces the camera so you don't have to work with extreme perspectives. This is an artist's choice thing, but it is distracting and you are good enough that you could have worked with the perspective, so no excuse there.
-
Luna is a touch too saturated, and pulls the eye away from the center action. However, the main problem is that teal towel she is sitting on. ARGH! It hurts my eyes! You could probably change the teal to something lighter and less...green to make it less clashing. Luna's eyeshadow is a nice shade....
-
Dat ball.
...
I'm just going to go and say it, but that is a solid object, and balls, especially popped ones, are not. After looking at it for 15 minuets (That one by Boccherini. No, really. I was using a youtube looper) as I wrote this critique, a disturbing thought impacts my brain. Wait.....is-is a frisbee? Have I made a mistake? It doesn't really matter. At first glance, this enigmatic pink thing looks like a lazily drawn ball, and not a frisbee. I really don't know how to fix this. Perhaps some circular movement lines to show it vibrating? I don't know.
Impact:
Now, despite my nitpicking, I really love this piece. There is story, and none the small mistakes get in the way of telling that story. Despite being just a small moment in an ordinary day, this is one of my new favorite pieces of mlp art, and ultimately showcases what this series is all about. Thank you for this and for being an inspiration to all us starting artists.

Remember Sweetie Belle whacking Rarity's horn to disrupt her magic? The ball hitting Celestia's horn could have easily made her drop her drink.

She also could have defined Rainbow Dash's arm behind her head a bit more. It took me a while to find that it was behind her head, and not actually missing.

I'm happy that you like this scene.
Yes, there have been many beach pictures and a different setting would probably be a nice change, but there are still a few beach related ideas that I want to finish
Thanks for pointing out the bit with Luna's hair outline, I have improved that part now.
The frisbee now has w highlight along the edge, hopefully this will make it easier to recognize.

"there are very few ways the ball could spill the drink and still have the force and angle needed to stick on Celestia's horn"
1) I thought that was a frisbee
2) If the ball smacks, and pops, on Celestia's horn it would therefor disrupt her magic concentration leading to her dropping her glass. Magic, ain't got to explain shiet.

Well this will be the first ever time that i have critiqued something that is near perfection, and I'm sure someone who is a better artist that I might pick out a few more errors than I can. But I see nearly none.
Vision and originality are always something of a sticky wicket in my mind, as nothing is truly original, and its hard to say whether someone met their vision for a piece when you can't directly ask them what there intent was. I can infer intent from what was produced, I would guess that you wanted to create a scene with classic cartoon overtones and a someone slapstick comedy feel with the implication that Celestia has just been kit in the face by Dash with a Frisbee. That is marvelously conveyed, their expressions scream classic cartoon short; Pinkies exaggerated fear; Luna's amusement; Dash's obvious embarrassment; Celestia, looking utterly annoyed. If that was your vision then amazing job! If I'm wrong and you were totally going for a dark, Noir feel that is very, very serous, then I'm sorry but there may be a few issues.
As far as originality, I have seen all these elements before, but never combined in such a fun, entertaining way as this.Moving right on, as I'm pretty sure this was meant to harken back to classic cartooning, and isn't about being super inventive and new.
Technique. I use a different program that you, so I can't really saw a word about whether you did the best work with the given tool, because I don't know the tools given. But i can comment on general art technique, and wow, that is well done! You have a lovely sense of line, especially around the characters, especially around the princesses. I do notice a few spots, like the end of Celestia's tail and the spilled drink where the lines sort of peter out a bit, and there is an odd little wiggle in the line around Luna's visible wing that I'm not sure if it is intentional.
The shadowing is very well done, though perhaps the dark, nearly black shadowing of the direct sunlight on Dash's leg feels a little too dark. I do however, love the softer, more diffused shadowing under the umbrella, its a very very nice attention to detail. Luna's magic's coloring feels little too harsh as well, to me, maybe it could do with being a little more transparent. And its not particularly relevant to shadowing, but the characters have marvelously bright eyes, very life-like!
As for impact, well this piece grabs and holds you attention, by giving you a lot to look at. The princess side of the picture is kept wisely weightier, so the eye naturally loos there first, giving it the greatest impact. Keeping the cooler colored Luna closest to the viewer was a great choice too, since bright white Celestia would probably create a scene of empty space at the side of the piece. Nice job on keeping Pinkie's coat from being too obtrusive by having pink shades in the piece in more places that just her. Otherwise she might have drawn the eye too much away from other elements.
Thank you for posting this fine piece, it is far above my own skill level, but I though I might offer some critique for you, as you did ask. It is however, a very fun, well though out piece, and I'm glad I had the chance to really dive into it like this!

The colors and techniques are brilliant. However, A little more light direction could be applied to make it more dynamic and interesting! Theres hints of shading here and there, but could be improved!
The expressions on Rainbowdash, Celestia, Luna, and Pinkiepie are absolutely adorable. They bring such character and personality to the piece, so good job!
Try some color exaggeration here and there as well! Make parts stand out! Its a very pastel piece to me, however it could use a bit more impact to it!
The line technique you display is a cute, light-hearted one so its extremely appropriate! Keep going!

Very nice composition! I love the wide view and the use of perspective to create some level of depth to the world, the art style is great with nice variety in the line weights. It fits the MLP look while keeping to a more original approach than simply copying the vector style, I love the way you've drawn their manes and the soft pastel colors! Little touches like the umbrella in the white pony's hair is pretty adorable. It did take me a minute to notice the frisbee that caused the whole fiasco, perhaps a bit of a brighter contrast to the color might make it pop more to help the viewer read the story a bit faster would be great! Rainbow Dash's bashful pose is really cute but also a tad off-balance, having her lean to one side to keep her center of gravity would assist the pose (the placement of the grounded hoof works to help though!). Overall I really love it, the tropical look reads great and I love the character expressions, the storytelling is very fun and playful! Awesome artwork!

i love the pict. it's sooo hilarious with pinky cowering behind the tree and nightmare moon laughing. the little umbrella and pinky's frisbee could have been a shade darker. i had difficulty making them out. i have problems drawing flies much less anything this excellent. the expressions are what i really like. a scared pinky behind the tree, the princess with the tear from laughing, rainbow dash with her "hand" behind her head. but what really got me was big sis's expression. it said to me, friend or no friend to twilight, i'm gonna knock the cutie mark off of your hindquarters!!! i really really love this please keep up the excellent drawings. you have real talent

I was just going to write an awesome fangirling comment but when I realized you were accepting critique, I just had to do it.
The colors , EVERY color you used in this picture balance out perfectly.
I love how the umbrella from her drink landed in her hair in the midst of the frisbee mishap XD Did I get that right?
And how Pinkie is just plum terrified.
This piece is nothing short of a humorous masterpiece!
There's really nothing I can offer you as far as constructive critique, as the simple style in itself (with the clear amount of effort put into the linework alone) does this picture just enough justice, everything about it is just spot on.
