It seems there has been alot of buzz about Derpy being "fixed". I saw the New version of Derpy in "The Last Round-Up" and I do admit it didn't settle well with me. I still enjoyed the original. I didn't like the reason why they had her change. It didn't seem at all offensive in my opinion. When I first saw the scene in the animatic, I literally burst with joy. But I had a feeling that it might not settle with some fans and some people. Especially since people already have their own version of Derpy and people might get the wrong idea of her character.
Its not often that cartoons show fan content. Cause sometimes when you include Fan content, it usually can result to something negative (to fans or to others). And sometimes it also endangers the identity/essence of the show. Or if people like it, they will probably expect a lot more.To the point they might expect TOO much. So you could imagine my surprise when they decided to name Derpy and give her a voice.
Derpy has became more than just some fancy Easter egg in the show. She's became an Icon, a symbol to the fans of MLP:FIM. Though Derpy was created in a studio, her character was created by the fans. You can probably say that she represents all Bronies everywhere. Fans have enjoyed Derpy whenever they see her in the background until the point when she talked. The entire studio loves her as well. I was there in one of those Livestream chatrooms when people first heard her talk. It was quite entertaining how happy people were. So its no surprise to see people get really upset by this.
In a way, I understand why majority of fans are upset but blaming, pointing fingers and throwing hate around is not the way to do this. You're forgetting your own motto "Love and Tolerance". You bronies are one of inspiration and our greatest achievement. Don't sully your name by spreading Hate and intolerance. Remember, Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. If you are upset with something, display it in a more positive way. You'll get your message across much better than lashing it out with hate. Show some respect. Show some humility.
Oh I also want to address on a artist name Yamino. I've heard that she has been garnered a lot of hate by the Brony Community due to her not liking Derpy's portrayal. Let it be known, that she had NOTHING to do with the sudden change. She expressed an opinion on Derpy. That is all. She did not ask me to do this or anyone on the staff. I had to say this because the hate she's been receiving is unnecessary. So leave her be.
Also don't spam notes and messages to the people who work on the show. You're probably not going to get much out of it.
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.
I hope this message will ease some of your minds. Thank you.

All controversy aside I had mixed feelings about the scene, the voice seemed off, wasn't sure i liked that she got named derpy. That is to say was fine with it as a fan name, and her as a fun background pony, just seemed to much catering to the fans, and would have liked it better as either a background pony or developed as a full on character. I liked the new voice better, though i thought some of the inflections were done better on the original. I have no problem with hasbro changing it, I think it's better to err on the side of caution in this matter, some found the term derp to be offensive, and after researching it i found the words origin is from baseketball and then Mr. Derp from South park, meaning what most bronies say making a mistake type of thing, but also in the research i found a fair number that find it offensive term because of some of the places it's been used can be taken as offensively, though i don't think bronies mean it that way when referring to derpy or hasbro with the character.
TLDR: I like new voice, I can understand why some people find derp offensive and understand hasbro changing it

To be honest, I kinda think 'Bronies' (not particularly every brony, but the majority voice and appearance of the fandom) are kind of spoiled. First of all, Hasbro did a very nice thing by trying to appeal to us. But I don't think a change like that should deter people who really like the show. I watch it because it's fun, and it makes me happy. One change won't completely erase those feelings.
My way of loving and tolerating is to let people have their opinions and for me to keep to mine.

Whoops, didn't mean to say 'spoiled'. That's a bit harsh
What I meant was that they're listened to and recognized as a community and actually given some of the things they hope for, unlike other fandoms.

I would like to see some more Derpy in the show, but you do bring up a good point. Even when it's become painfully obvious that Derpy's not gone just because of a single edit, they're still gonna complain that the show killed her. Sad but true.

There have been MUCH worse characters than Derpy: Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy and Billy from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, yet nobody I know has ever made a big fuss over them. Why is Hasbro being so uptight about Derpy? Is there really ANY evidence that she's mentally challenged or handicapped? I don't remember seeing or hearing any. Heck, I honestly wouldn't mind if she was mentally challenged! That would make a great potential Friendship Is Magic episode (just because someone is physically, mentally, or developmentally challenged, it doesn't make them any less of a pony than the rest of us and it doesn't mean that they're abnormal or embarrassing or incapable of anything. Wouldn't this be a GREAT FiM episode?!)!

*sigh* I guess the problem is not everyone is understanding of the character. We see a loveable, clumsy pony. Evidentally others saw her as a mockery of people with mental disabilities, despite this was clearly not the intention (last I checked, crossed eyes were the result of a squint, something I had until I was 4). The voice may not have helped, but you can hardly blame a voice actor for doing her job.
On the brighter side, though her name is removed and eyes corrected, we still had her appear, short time or not. She's not gone either, just seeing straight is all. In all likelyhood this might be just a tempory change (or so I hope).
It's a pity there are so many people spreading hate on the net (though I do wonder a little if some of them are bronies and aren't just 'trolling'). Hopefully they will get your message and lay off -_-

How so?
I can see where you are comming from, but her clumsyness is down to her crossed eyes. As I said, that isn't related to a mental disability in any way. As for the voice, I'm pretty sure the voice acter thought she might have been a guy. If you look at some of the fan voices on the net, none of them sound like they would be taking the mickey either.
Were people offended by Zecora (who is basically the african equivalent of a pony)? Derpy was not intended to be a mockery of handycapped people, thinking she is is due to a misunderstanding (as far as I can tell). This is My Little Pony, the last show on Earth that would purposefully mock people for any reason

It was not an offensive anything, the offence was all in the heads of those who felt offended as they chose to take offence over this insanely minor issue. It was just another excuse to be petty and bicker about irrelevant crap. The fans response may have been extreme but it was for the right reasons, businesses like Hasbro should be more willing to stand behind their product and clarify the issue in public statement rather than make unnecessary alterations that only serve as censorship against people with disabilities.
The offence here was not because of how Derpy was portrayed, but because she was portrayed. This is bias against people with disabilities, patronizing attitude towards them as well as need to censor them out because these people do not possess a healthy attitude towards people with disabilities and therefore can not understand when they are used in slapstick humor together with "normal" individuals.
Just like how people hate bronies for doing something unconventional, they hate unconventional subjects in media and try to silence all that is different so it is easier to disapprove everywhere.

You say "try harder" but I am not sure what I was "trying" to begin with.
First of all you are the one seeming like an idiot here for thinking that My little pony would go out of its way to intentionally or even accidentally insult anyone with Down's syndrome. The whole voice problem was a mistake to begin with on the part of VA.
Frankly it appears that you have head up so high in your ass that any attempt of discussion and civil discourse would fall to deaf butt cheeks, as you lashed out with ad hominems to my earlier civil reply already, so pardon me for not entertaining any further hopes of communication with you.

Heh. Try harder. My best friend (27 year old heterosexual male) loves the show. I don't have a problem with men liking My Little Pony. But I'm sick of those fans acting like they own it.
If you honestly think that a Pony who sounds like she has down's syndrome and is literally named 'Derpy' is not problematic, then you're an idiot. It is not offensive because it depicts a disability but because it makes light of a disability for humor. If the episode had been released exactly as it is without that voice, the reaction wouldn't have been anywhere near as extreme. And there likely would have been no reaction at all if they hadn't called her 'Derpy.'
And the biggest kicker is: you Bronies haven't LOST her. She's still gonna be in the show. She just doesn't sound like she is literally mentally retarded.

And you my fellow Sir sound like an ignorant man only looking it from one side. So let me get this straight, If i where to have a disabeled friend, we can' t go and fool around and have a laugh about stupid things, even about our own stupidity' s e every once and a while, and I sould threat him as a less able , rather than an equal person and friend who has the same right to joy and happiness in his life as everyone else? WHO ARE YOU TO DENY A PERSON ACCEPTANCE AND SAY THAT HE/SHE SOULD BE THREATHEN DIFFERENTLY INSTEAD OF ACCEPTED AS A PART OF SOCIETY? No my dear Sir if I had a handicapped friend I would threat him as all my other friends, and would try to help him fit in and help him with tasks that he cant do around me as much as I can. You know back in the day they used to teach us that we sould threat everyone like we would like to be threathen ourselves. Seems tough a lot of people have forgotten that.........
And also derpy comes from the word derp . Derp is a slag word made in the 1990' s originating from the word Duhh... when somthing is obvious and rather silly. Mismached eyes are caused by the brain sending wrong impulses to the muscles around the eye making them slightly and progressively shift for certain periods of time.
A good day to You Sir,

[SARCASM]Yes, because as we all know, all this uproar is so the lot of us can laugh at retards and are all wearing great big trollfaces at the fact they actually called her Derpy. It absolutely has nothing to do with the fact that her name and clumsy, naively adorable, and accident prone nature is a big nod to the fan community. [/SARCASM] (in case you missed it.)
To be honest, I'm not glad for the voicechange, simply because while the original voice didn't totally fit, the new one, combined with the editing of the art, saps a lot of the life from the character. The name, however, I never saw as a labelling her as mentally deficient, but simply as somepony who fails/makes mistakes/falls down a lot, and I actually cheer how she can keep picking herself up and carrying on happily, even if she occasionally messes up in the attempt to do so. It's actually rather sad how you and others can only see her as an object of ridicule. Here's a pony that looks a little different; Here's a pony that sounds a little weird! She's not the brightest, and pretty clumsy, but she tries hard, and is generally happy, helpful, and apologetic when she causes problems for others. And people like YOU would have us believe there's something wrong with her, and that her only purpose for being visible is so people like her can be ridiculed.
And while, in the spirit of the show and bronies in general, I'm willing to tolerate that kind of utter bullshit, I will NEVER quietly accept it, especially when coming out of the mouth of someone so self-righteous.
