It seems there has been alot of buzz about Derpy being "fixed". I saw the New version of Derpy in "The Last Round-Up" and I do admit it didn't settle well with me. I still enjoyed the original. I didn't like the reason why they had her change. It didn't seem at all offensive in my opinion. When I first saw the scene in the animatic, I literally burst with joy. But I had a feeling that it might not settle with some fans and some people. Especially since people already have their own version of Derpy and people might get the wrong idea of her character.
Its not often that cartoons show fan content. Cause sometimes when you include Fan content, it usually can result to something negative (to fans or to others). And sometimes it also endangers the identity/essence of the show. Or if people like it, they will probably expect a lot more.To the point they might expect TOO much. So you could imagine my surprise when they decided to name Derpy and give her a voice.
Derpy has became more than just some fancy Easter egg in the show. She's became an Icon, a symbol to the fans of MLP:FIM. Though Derpy was created in a studio, her character was created by the fans. You can probably say that she represents all Bronies everywhere. Fans have enjoyed Derpy whenever they see her in the background until the point when she talked. The entire studio loves her as well. I was there in one of those Livestream chatrooms when people first heard her talk. It was quite entertaining how happy people were. So its no surprise to see people get really upset by this.
In a way, I understand why majority of fans are upset but blaming, pointing fingers and throwing hate around is not the way to do this. You're forgetting your own motto "Love and Tolerance". You bronies are one of inspiration and our greatest achievement. Don't sully your name by spreading Hate and intolerance. Remember, Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. If you are upset with something, display it in a more positive way. You'll get your message across much better than lashing it out with hate. Show some respect. Show some humility.
Oh I also want to address on a artist name Yamino. I've heard that she has been garnered a lot of hate by the Brony Community due to her not liking Derpy's portrayal. Let it be known, that she had NOTHING to do with the sudden change. She expressed an opinion on Derpy. That is all. She did not ask me to do this or anyone on the staff. I had to say this because the hate she's been receiving is unnecessary. So leave her be.
Also don't spam notes and messages to the people who work on the show. You're probably not going to get much out of it.
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.
I hope this message will ease some of your minds. Thank you.

What's more important? A few tweaked parents are a whole pissed off, sad, and disappointed fandom? I saw nothing wrong with Derpy.. And I never heard of anyone getting pissed at her being in the show, or offended. And anyone offended by her is an idiot... She's not offensive in any way, shape or form, and she was put in the show for us- the fans. Why change her? There was no reason to.

What I'm really wondering is, will Derpy be retconned out completely, or are they just doing this for iTunes? I mean, even if she is retconned out completely, I'll understand, but I'll honestly also be a bit disappointed. Just a bit though, since MLP: FiM is still an awesome show, and Hasbro is still an awesome company.
That being said, I'm already disappointed in a lot of the really rabid fans who just completely freaked out over this, like I mean, c'mon, practice what you preach, LOVE AND TOLERANCE, not hate and intolerance. There's a big difference between not liking (but tolerating) something, and outright hating it.

As for Derpy's new voice, I honestly don't mind it (in fact, in a way I actually like it better than the old one), though I'd like it if they kept her name and her old eyes.

Well I'm not gonna make a big fuss about this. But I myself don't entirely like that the name Derpy was omitted. Maybe the voice needed some changing from my understanding. Derpy grew to be one of my favorite characters from the show. Hopefully things work out in the future. But indeed this became a huge event that we have witnessed recently. And you make a good point about Derpy not being the essential thing for the show. I always liked the show before knowing about Derpy's popularity.
I wish you the best of luck.

Kreoss, I first want to say I admire you guys behind the show, for all your magnificent effort on the show in every part of its production, it is always as impressive to see, frame by frame even how well this series in animated and how delightful the background artwork is among many other fantastic things.
Then to this issue with Derpy. After in depth contemplation to put words to this all and perhaps illustrate further the entire source of this hullabaloo and how it even became an issue I have landed to this conclusion:
Derpy Hooves to Bronies stands to mark the relationship of this wonderful, talented collection of individuals working on this show and the fandom. She is like a monument, a statue erected to celebrate the new kind of media where everyone who enjoys the show also can have a smidgen of influence into its future content. This fills the bronies with hope and joy, it gives us a real relationship to this show and through that to its characters, we feel that much closer to the show and people who create it when our inside jokes reach the show.
This is a beautiful image that Derpy painted of media in future. No longer are people subjected to take what is dished out, but they can even influence the content a little, reinforcing their passion and resilience to stay with the show when they have hope of seeing more of their love manifested in the show. But when Derpy scene was corrected and her name removed from the scene, her eyes straightened to less wonky gaze this beautiful image was soiled. To bronies it seemed like Hasbro has regrets, and that the iron wall is being erected again between viewers and the creative team.
It frightened and mobilized many bronies, they did not only do it for Derpy and for justice, they wanted Hasbro to know that they are willing to fight for this relationship and are not going to let it slip by just because of few people who have no sense of humor. This fear turned to anger as people, individuals felt powerless and that their effort and love was in vain before the big and blind Hasbro corporation just like their love has been vain in front of everything else in this world. This anger manifested in a lot of agitation and poor behavior in turn with younger bronies who still are not capable to handling such emotions with grace.
Derpy matters to us, not because she is "derpy" but because she is a little piece of our collective hearts in the show, we do not love her solely because she looks silly, but because she is the child of the fandom, gift to us in the show, gift to Hasbro is Hasbro ever chooses to utilize her as a toy and I am sure it is not a complete pain to add her into scenes for the animators either.
This special relationship we fans and MLP has is something no other TV show ever has had and we all understand its fragility as it is unique and rare situation first and hopefully not last of its kind.
The sheer volume of fan art, music, animations, articles and fiction already speaks about how empowered and accepted we feel. This storm of creativity is manifestation of a new form of friendship between concepts, fandom, producers and creators all coming together to create and revel in culture that understands the individualistic value and effort of working together, as each their own selves in what ever they know best. Akin to Winter Wrap Up.
So, bronies felt scared and saddened when they felt this all to slip away, and they decided to try harder to make it obvious they do not want it, they are willing to do what it takes to save this relationship. All they want in turn is a little trust, understandably that is hard to come by but perhaps it is worth it. It will fortify the fandom all the more in the end.

I completely agree with you! In my opinion the community is kind of split into four categories:
Hardcore Bronies -Very Active in the community (Artists, Writers, Watchers, Musicians, Cosplayers, Actors)
Trolls - Simply hide in the community and pretend to be bronies.
Aggressive Bronies - They like the show but fail to understand exactly what this community is about and the values it practices.
Standard Bronies - Fans of the show who occasionally view Pony sites and enjoy pony content online.
I consider myself a hardcore brony and am grateful that you posted this. "Love and Tolerate" is what this community was built on, lets not forget that.

Thank you for helping put us all at ease. On watching the change, both I and my Aspergers (and Lazy-eyed) brother were a little upset, not because of the voice, and not so much because of the name (though I think "Ditzy" is just as poor a name, if Derpy is offensive - Ditz was hurled at me a lot as a blonde girl growing up), but because of the changed eyes. It's rather disappointing to see a character you identify with become altered, but thanks for letting us know that the eyes aren't going to change.

Awesome response, it is true the way people exaggerated on this was over the top... fans should complain, not whine about it ! also, maybe the way she was introduced was the problem, you know just calling her derpy does sound like an insult instead of a name for people outside the internet, everyone else knows she is called derpy hooves, but non-bronies must think something like "did RD just called that pony stupid or something?", so it figures it had some issues... I love the way you say derpy represents bronies, makes me love her even more XD but also makes me sad cause after this whole thing, it's unprobable we will get more canon on derpy
, but well as you said, it's the show itself that's AWESOME not just derpy

Lets not forget that they didn't exactly un-derp her eyes completely. They're still derped in a few shots. That was really my saving grace.
The new voice is unsettling, but... tolerable. I'm in the middle. There was always a part of me that fought through the initial joy and thought the original voice was simply too boyish and "retarded". Then there's the new voice, which I don't like either.
As for taking Derpy's name out of the equation... Well, I'm a little sad, and I think they could put her name back in. I do, however, support Dash's "angriness" being toned down to a dull annoyance. It spoke more to her character, and made her seem like less of a (for lack of a better word) bitch; which she's been becoming increasingly more of this late in season 2.
My ideal scene would be a third change in which her name is brought back, while keeping Dash calm, recording a new voice that's somewhere in the middle between the original and the revised version, and keeping her eyes "half-derped".
That's just my two cents. Probably not gonna get anywhere, but I'll post them anyway.

Derpy , derpy meaning , definition of derpy , what is derpy - Awkward or embarrassing, especially pertaining to a person.
Some examples : "Man, that guy is so awkward!""Yeah, he's really derpy."
To be inefficient, slow, unable, inexperienced, not working correctly, ##, naive, etc. A word that usually takes the place of "retarded."Can be pertaining to a person or a thing.
Some examples : I tried to send my essay in via email last night, but my computer was being derpy.*
thats the definition of derpy. that it no way involves mentally handicapped people. it just means being clumsy and having stupid moments all the time. has hasbro read this and tell the concerned people to shove it up their ass. hasbro shouldnt be scared of a few people. hasbro has more money and alot more power than a few people do. they couldnt do shit even if they wanted to.

Personally, I'm very saddened by the changes. Derpy does represent Bronies, as you said. A lot of the community is equating the changes with the show giving a message that it's not ok to be different. That's not the intention of the changes, of course, but that's what it feels like to a lot of us. Thanks again for your commentary, I will definitely continue to enjoy the show no matter what else comes of all this.

Maybe it started that way as an anti-trolling defense, I don't know for sure since I wasn't there at the time. I'm definitely not saying that sarcasm has no place in the world, and by all means, be sarcastic. The statement just feels a bit belittling of those that are trying to make a constant effort to not fall into the cynical trap where negativity dictates how they act.
It would be stupid of me to expect others to adopt my exact beliefs because somehow in my mind I am more right than anyone else. In fact, I've been proven wrong many times before. I don't attach sincerity to truth, because they are not the same. Not to say there aren't those that do think that, so I think I see where you're coming from. I'd be too timid to push my beliefs on other people anyhow.
It's not for me to judge how others live their lives, I can only suggest better ways, and live my life as an example. I hope I haven't offended your senses.

Society, as a whole, is NOT OK with disabled people. My brother was severely mentally handicapped and when the character "Timmy" came out I loved him becuase he was just like my brother (though my brother never spoke so never said his name). Yes it's South Park and therefore automatically offensive, but the meaning behind that initial episode resonated and Timmy and Jimmy soon became beloved characters of that show. But people, mostly soap-box-standing, moral-high-road individuals went on and on about how those characters shouldn't exist. Why? Becuase people don't want to see it, it makes them uncomfortable.
That in mind, like Rainbow Dash's Is she LGBT support or not--Derpy was never portrayed as disabled. Her voice, to me, just sounding kind of, well, silly. Her cross eyes make her cute and flawed. But because some people think she's portrayed disabled people, they cover their kids eyes becuase "they don't want their kids exposed to THAT."
I had to live that for 13 year before my brother died, I love characters like Derpy, and I hate it when people get offended for the sake of being offended. Please don't take her away .

Aww thanks guys. This was not a recent thing but every time something like this happens, it brings up all the negativity. I told my mother about it, she likes MLP too and she's thinking of getting a Derpy shirt to show her support. She knows that Derpy, like Rainbow, doesn't definitively represent anything, but it's the actions by heartless people that sort of make her an icon, or a symbol of love and acceptance to handicapped people and their families. My mom was VERY sad to hear that Derpy might be "fixed" or taken out entirely.

This is so true... on so many levels. Thank you for addressing the public with this message, as I believe we all needed some guidance on how to handle this, and how _NOT_ to handle this. Sure, we can point fingers at X and blame Y, but that won't bring back Derpy. We will still see her derp-eyed expression and all the other things that made her Derpy, although I must admit I was saddened (and a bit annoyed) at the removal of Derpy's nature and her derpish voice (I like how people got mad over Derpy, but they don't do anything about Spongebob or Patrick who aren't exactly sharp-minded either), but we must continue to Love & Tolerate this abrupt and disappointing decision. Who knows? Maybe Hasbro and/or Studio B will make it up to us? Just give it time...

I know it's minor, in the grand scale of things. I know it's just a cartoon. I know it's not important. But I loved Derpy, and I was thrilled to death to see a character given such form and vitality by the fans put into the show..... and after seeing the revisions they made to the character-- voice changed, eyes changed, even her name blanked out--- I can't help but feel like a kid who's had his birthday cake taken away.
After decades of corporations "creatively reinterpreting" the past, engaging in Orwellian censoring our cultural heritage for the sake of transient, trivial sensibilities, and being roundly scorned for doing it, you'd think they'd have learned their lesson! Spielberg turning guns into walkie-talkies... Warner Brothers deleting chunks out of classical shorts.... Disney outright burying cultural treasures in their vaults, never to be seen again... disastrous, all of them.
Why did they do this? Who demanded this? Who was responsible for deciding to do it? Could someone PLEASE tell me that?
I just want to know WHO exactly demanded Derpy be censored, and WHO decided it was a good idea! That's all I want right now. That, and Derpy put right back where she was, the way she was.

I still feel spite towards whoever made this an issue to begin with. Derpy was great when we first saw her, she didn't need changing whatsoever. The new voice is fine, but the fact that her eyes have been 'fixed' is outrageous, and removing her name is just as unnecessary. I still don't see how the minority get their way by complaining and yet the tens of thousands shouting for Derpys' return are blocked out. I really hope this is just something that was for the DVD release, and that if Derpy makes a return it will be as she has been made out to be by the fans. It's great for you to say she is going to be 'fine', but any info on whether her eyes and name have been permanently banned would be greatly appreciated.
Can't Hasbro listen as they previously have? Or have they, and we just don't know it yet?

I say the best way to fix this is to do an entire episode on derpy, and not just derpy, but also ALL other background characters in the future!!! As long as the original Derpy Hooves is the "main" character, you could use the screentime to play out who she really is and that way there shouldn't be any flames. However, if there still are they should only be the same as those who never liked the show in the first place. (also, never change what you know is best just bc of a few complaints, so many ppl change themselves bc of mean and outrages claims, don't be a part of the crowd, be yourself!!)
