It seems there has been alot of buzz about Derpy being "fixed". I saw the New version of Derpy in "The Last Round-Up" and I do admit it didn't settle well with me. I still enjoyed the original. I didn't like the reason why they had her change. It didn't seem at all offensive in my opinion. When I first saw the scene in the animatic, I literally burst with joy. But I had a feeling that it might not settle with some fans and some people. Especially since people already have their own version of Derpy and people might get the wrong idea of her character.
Its not often that cartoons show fan content. Cause sometimes when you include Fan content, it usually can result to something negative (to fans or to others). And sometimes it also endangers the identity/essence of the show. Or if people like it, they will probably expect a lot more.To the point they might expect TOO much. So you could imagine my surprise when they decided to name Derpy and give her a voice.
Derpy has became more than just some fancy Easter egg in the show. She's became an Icon, a symbol to the fans of MLP:FIM. Though Derpy was created in a studio, her character was created by the fans. You can probably say that she represents all Bronies everywhere. Fans have enjoyed Derpy whenever they see her in the background until the point when she talked. The entire studio loves her as well. I was there in one of those Livestream chatrooms when people first heard her talk. It was quite entertaining how happy people were. So its no surprise to see people get really upset by this.
In a way, I understand why majority of fans are upset but blaming, pointing fingers and throwing hate around is not the way to do this. You're forgetting your own motto "Love and Tolerance". You bronies are one of inspiration and our greatest achievement. Don't sully your name by spreading Hate and intolerance. Remember, Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. If you are upset with something, display it in a more positive way. You'll get your message across much better than lashing it out with hate. Show some respect. Show some humility.
Oh I also want to address on a artist name Yamino. I've heard that she has been garnered a lot of hate by the Brony Community due to her not liking Derpy's portrayal. Let it be known, that she had NOTHING to do with the sudden change. She expressed an opinion on Derpy. That is all. She did not ask me to do this or anyone on the staff. I had to say this because the hate she's been receiving is unnecessary. So leave her be.
Also don't spam notes and messages to the people who work on the show. You're probably not going to get much out of it.
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.
I hope this message will ease some of your minds. Thank you.

Savederpy.com. You'll see the two working (the third has been closed) addresses for Hasbro's public relations. However, remember, their "fault" appear to just be to had to cave in to some complaints. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't have given the green light to the original scene in the first place.
So please, yes, tell them how you feel and why you believe she should have stayed as she was: actually I do not agree with all of your reasons, but you have a right to complain. Just as those who complained *against* her had. Just be civil, of course.
Still, I would like to take the chance to further highlight how this whole shitstorm could have been easily avoided. A public statement simply saying "hey y'all, it's Hasbro here! Sorry, but seems there's been some issues with the portrayal of Derpy, so we are probably gonna have to remove her name and change her a bit. We know this won't make some of you happy, but the opposite wasn't making other happy either" would have avoided 90% of this silly rage. We know how these things work. The very fact the shoutout happened would have been the only thing that matters, and at most what would have happened would have been thousands of fans showing their sympathy for Hasbro. Much more than any overprotective mom or iTunes problem, this has been yet another failure for their outdated PR department, which still thinks they are dealing with a market from the past century.

There is no proof that this is Hasbro's doing.
Apple is very hard-headed and likes to censor everything and anything on their itunes app store. It could be them pressuring Hasbro or refusing to sell the show. That is serious business.

I fully approve of this.
True thing it was a shock they had to change her voice and eyes becuase some found her...um, inappropiate, but as long as the show keeps going, it'll be fine. I could go on an on how several shows has mentally challenged characters that NEVER got any complains, but that has already been said a lot of times before.

When you said what would happen if Derpy never existed, I started to wonder. I know MLP would still be an awesome show without her but who would the bronies selected as the mascot of the fandom. Would it have been Lyra? I don't know but at least I can remeber Derpy during that one episode and thats all I could ever ask for. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this post. I'm happy to hear from someone professional could give us something, rather than the only things I've been sing otherwise, like youtube videos and petitions.
I'm very said to hear of some bronies behavior, but just let them do what they'll do and pay them no mind. They're just blowing off steam, and though many will listen to your kind and understanding words, some won't and that's just the sad fact of it.
As for the people like me, I'm happy to know that Derpy isn't deleted entirely [not that I was concerned before], and that she's just as important to the people behind the scenes as the fanbase. It truly is a shame what happened with Derpy, but she's still Derpy Hooves in my book and it seems she's still Derpy in yours.
Again, thank you for taking your time with this, and know that somepony appreciates that time spent. It was spent well. I do wish I knew what exactly you meant by "She'll be fine" but I suppose seeing many more upcoming episodes will make that more clear for me. <3

the way I see the edit of Derpy, it was a compermise to fans and to those who complained about the name of Derpy.
1. she still exists, her name is just not mentioned in the episode.
2. she is wasn't totally removed from the episode, and she still talks in the episode.
3. Hasbro has not deployed any legal means to stop the fan base from calling Derpy "Derpy Hooves".
Knowing human nature someone who knew what the word derpy meant outside of MLP probably tagged Derpy with the name and the fans liked it and ran with it.
Because before I heard of Derpy Hooves, I have never heard the word used to describe someone.
it seems of late every little drama has snowballed into a major drama, so please take a deep breath and calm down.

Thank you. Thank you for making a little wall-eyed pony, thank you for noticing we liked her, thank you for giving her the appearances you did, and thank you for giving her that scene. It's not your fault that someone somewhere got offended and Hasbro felt they had to change it.
I think most of us are just afraid for season three. Sure, the episodes this season are safe, but we don't want you guys to have to stop giving her these shoutouts because of all this backlash. Not only did the new scene remove her name, it undid her eyes, which were the real reason we loved her in the first place.
At the end of the day, I don't mind the new voice that much, but I do mind that it meant a cosmic retcon to what was a pretty cute scene. It's no one's fault except maybe the person who forgot to add a female pronoun in the script, but the fuss made over a character that led to her essentially being removed just makes me... sad. It was a wonderful nod to the fans, and no one did anything to deserve the backlash it's gotten. I for one thought it had mostly blown over by now, but now it's gonna start up a big mess all over again. *Sigh* Thanks again. No matter what happens, we know it's not your fault this went down.

I am not sure what people expect of you as an animator - you're not a Hasbro board of director, you're not the head writer, and I'm pretty sure you have nothing to do with the license other than what your contract asks you to draw. Correct me if I am wrong about any of that. If anything, people should be writing to Hasbro in a positive way. Maybe short 30-60second web shorts of just Derpy would garner a lot of attention, please part of the fanbase, and even bring in profit. Telling animators to go die for an executive decision is just dumb and makes me fear attaching my name to anything personal once I get out of my animation course, and that's pretty bullshit considering you're getting hate for a kids show.
You've handled this really well though, kudos to you and the other staff members for keeping your cool in this shitstorm.

My Little Pony is great and I think it's awesome that Derpy finally got to talk, but...
I've seen both versions of the clip, both changed and unchanged, and I don't see why it was altered in the first place. The original was funny and I really think that it worked well. The new clip didn't mention her name, so that was a let down, as I had always known her as Derpy, and the voice was... not bad, but it sounded off. i have no problem with it, but I don't see why they changed it after it had been released like that. If they were going to make her sound different, the least they could have done is try it in a new episode, instead of altering what's already there.
If it ain't broke (Which it wasn't) don't try and fix it. You'll just annoy the people that liked the original and the haters will still hate. Because that's what they do.

I'm really sorry about all of this. I wasn't involved, I just heard about it.
I have to thank you. And Lauren Faust. And the entire group of people working on this show that make it everything it is. You're all saints. Lesser folk wouldn't have had the patience for a lot of our weirdness and miraculously, and I get the feeling it genuinely encourages all of you and gives you that much more pride. Just not now, not this time, and I'm honestly reeling from all of these things I'm seeing, and god, I wish I could express how ashamed I am of some people's behavior right now.
I said it before on Yamino's page and I'll say it here again, everyone, please stop with all this rage and fury and hold your tongues. I'm a bit upset things turned out the way they did with The Last Round Up too but I'm understanding, as all of you should be. That is the motto right? So let's tolerate the shit out of this incident with the episode and calm down and not go lynching people over the nett about it. Please, let's be kind and gentle about this.
Derpy is still going to be around, she's still gonna be the same, unique, lovable background character she's always been, always will be, and all they did was edit up one single scene in an episode, the original version you can still find if you look hard enough if you don't already have it.
Again, I'm sorry about all this, and I hope you kind folk in the studio can forgive the fans for this.

Meaning that if we want the "uncensored" episode we have to download it illegally? Makes sense...
Seriously though, the problem here is that, realistically, Derpy isn't safe at all. If that little, single scene was enough to stir up enough problems for Hasbro to force them to re-edit it at the very least for the iTunes release (we'll see what will happen elsewhere, but I seriously doubt they are going to keep two versions around if not for the already printed dvds, they have made a decision), then the her future is bleak. The current season has long been more or less finished, and I suppose they'll hardly edit her for the remaining, usual, background appearances and easter eggs.
The same does not necessarily go for the next season. This whole mess has shown us and Hasbro the character is indeed controversial, and can lead to issues. As such, it is dangerous to use. Clearly the name isn't the only issue at hand, as her appearance too was edited in that scene (which is the really troubling detail in my opinion): just the appearance without any name calling might be safer, but would it still be worth the risk from a marketing perspective?
I don't want to belittle Kreoss' words here, but unfortunately he is not the one making the decisions. At the very least this could lead to her never having further dedicated sketches as the falling piano in S1. Those who make the decisions might even find appropriate to have the animators "underp" her eyes in the future even for the harmless easter eggs appearances, for the understandable "better safe than sorry" concept. They have every right to do it, mind me, if they believe this is in the best interest of the franchise.
A mobilization from the fanbase can however point out to them that it wouldn't be a wise marketing move and in the franchise interest, making them choose a middle-ground approach to the matter. Of course throwing curses and rage around isn't what I'm talking about: what I'm talking about are sensible letters to their public relations offices, as well as the online petitions being signed right now by tens of thousands of fans. This is harmless, and as Kreoss himself pointed out: it is tolerance. The fact I tolerate whatever Hasbro will see as the best decision, doesn't mean I have to agree with it, and doesn't mean I am not entitled to tell them my opinion in the hope it matters.

Thank you for the letter it does ease my mind a bit. I would rather see Derpy as a background character than to not see her at all, And I look forward to seeing my Favorite Pony in the Background and the crowds. I am concerned though on if the Great original version of the episode is going to be in the DVD, or if the crappy Censored Version will be in it. I would Pay $30 for the DVD if it has the original on it.

It's all well and good to preach friendship and tolerance, but when you change a character because people don't like that she's different you're just a hypocrite.
What's tolerant about sending the message "If you're different then you are going to be swept under the rug."

That's the problem with Derpy fans. They assume it was all about what she might have represented.
The reasons they won't entertain are that "Derpy" is a terrible name, her actions/personality were overdone to the point of being bad, and the voice they chose was grating.
Plus the fact that fandom being put into the actual show can only lead to worse things. The show was good before it was self-aware, and I've noticed a slip since.

I don't think the guy who wrote this journal, even if he was part of the show's staff and part of making the show what it is, actually has anything to do with the changes. He even said there he was disappointed by them, but that's just one scene in one episode.
The same Derpy we all know will still exist as he himself, someone who works on the show, has said that she'll still be in future episode like she's always been. So that message of "if you're different, you're going to be swept under the rug" is entirely non-existant.

This couldn't have been said in a better way. Thank you very, very much for letting the fans of the show know.
To all those who are still willing to threaten either Hasbro or DHX as the bad guys in all this: Remember your motto, "love and tolerate". The people behind this show, not to mention this franchise, have done a lot of hard work to have the franchise and this show to be as good and enjoyable as it is right now. To really make them the bad guys here doesn't solve any issues, neither would pressuring the staff of DHX who have DA accounts and such like to rectify any changes (when most of them probably didn't have the final say on what had to be changed anyway).
Derpy is still going to be on the show, she'll still be an Easter egg pony like she's always been. And that's good, right? And you get official confirmation from someone working on the show. So people, please calm down and feel rest assured that things'll be alright. And stop pointing fingers at Hasbro or DHX for this, would you rather just one scene in one episode of the show be altered or the entire show to be cancelled because Hasbro have been pressured so much over hypocritical bronies threatening them, the show's primary audience and the people who spend every day of every week practically to make sure this show is as great as it is that they can no longer feel comfortable with this direction?
Things'll be okay. So a scene's been altered. Just shrug it off, dust it off your shoulders and allow yourself to enjoy the stuff that you still want to enjoy.

Dude, It's a matter of principal. Hasbro, when push came to shove, sold the fans out. She never NEEDED to change.
How about show some integrity and if they cared for the fans, say, "No, you're wrong, she isn't offensive"? Make an ep about her--hell--CHANGE HER VOICE! But they underped her and are not calling her Derpy anymore, therefore, she is not Derpy. She is a pony in Derpy clothing.
You know as well as I do Faust would never allow this. She'd fight Hasbro/Apple/WHOEVER to the end..
The creators used to value what we did--now they do not. They will say and do anything to keep thier jobs regardless of what is RIGHT! CENSORSHIP SOLVES NOTHING.
You mean to tell me that WE are supposed to just sit here, while they change what WE love? He SAID she'd be fine, yeah, but guess what? She's already been changed.

No its not damage control, its being offered a fantastic TV show and at the expense of less than 5 minutes of footage on one scene on one episode, you demand more than what you have. Its never about the people working on the show, its never about how the franchise is doing or the show itself, its all about you and those who share the same sentiments.
Its mankids like you who are being a horrible example of a community for this show and I'm starting to want to tear down my pony posters and give away my pony toys to my neices. Which, hey, I may do anyway.
But so long as you don't harm the feelings or bash the hard, hard work of the people involved on the show or the company or those who are supposed to see THE SAME COMMUNITY as a point of positive research in how to market this show right, then thats fine. But you're not off to a good start if you're shouting and arguing with people who have done no harm but share their own opinions.

Sorry for the outburst then. I've had people target friends of mine and people I respect too get targetted over this same thing (one of them was made fun of all her life because she was blind in one eye and found the changes comforting, but people gave her worse hell than she ever had just over Derpy's sake, which I find very, very hard to excuse and justify), but I didn't mean to make out you were one of those people too. It just seems too much like people take this way, way too hard and take it out on others and its doing *no one* any good and I don't know why no one understands how that's bad.
I'm not saying I don't respect your opinion on the matter, feel whatever you like about this, but I'm glad you're not taking it out on others like so many are. Just hope more and more people were more mature over their opinions than they are right now.
My apologies for acting that way, alright? ;; Its been a long weekend. However, like I said already, the person who made this journal directly works on the show with the staff responsible for the show back in Studio DHX and he's working on new episodes with them right now and hey, on future episodes, Derpy will be like she always was! The only time she'll be changed is in less than 5 minutes of a scene in one single episode in Season 2. Thats all, other than that, its the same Derpy. So things won't turn out so bad after all, you'll see.

It's funny you mention a friend of yours...I had a friend who was blind and had a leg deformity which caused her to talk in a ratish stance...I loved her a lot...and one day, her mother contacted me and thought I was an online predator. She closed her account on Youtube without me ever sating goodbye, or explaining things. Since then, I've never heard from her at all. It was the worst pain I've ever felt.
When I think of Derpy, I think of her. She, as she i most popularly known, acts like her.
I think what they've done is just sweep the issue under the rug. Instead of saying that derpy wasn't retarded and was a symbol of love to the fans, they chose to change the imperfections that made her...well, her. I know many people with disabilities who were inspired by Derpy as she was, so I get offended at the people who say it's no biggie. To a lot of people Derpy was an example of being imperfect, but beautiful. As someone with cerebral palsy, I always found a powerful meaning to her character.
I feel this fiasco shows a strong lack of integrity on the creators' part. I don't mind changing the voice, but changing her eyes and her name just makes her in essence a shell of her former self. They could at least understand how important she was as-is to so many people and at least DEFEND her before deciding to cave into pressure.
I feel as if this signifies that the creators do not care who they upset now as long as they tow the line and do not do anything controversial. Faust made an ep called "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and never looked back...why should this staff? Why couldn't we all find common ground? Why did Derpy as we know her have to suffer because a few didn't understand her? (NOT trying to knock your friend.)
I just find it ironic that the show is supposed to teach kids certain values, and abandoned a character that could have been used to teach something you, me, and your friend would have loved to see covered...indifference.
I just can't sit here and tell you I am not hurting right now...every time I watch MLP from now on, I'm going to think of Derpy and how she's been altered for the wrong reasons..,how the creators used to care what we thought of her and loved us for making her...and now it seems like they don't anymore...she's just not called Derpy anymore...she's...just another clumsy pony.
I'm sorry if I seemed insensitive to your friend earlier...I give her a big brohoof...but I wish she could have only seen her as I saw her, because the way I saw her...she only wanted to encourage people like me and her, not slander...She was just a pony that wanted to be happy and eat muffins---and I know if she were here, she would give your friend a great big hug and tell her to be herself and never let anyone hold you back...
I hope you understand...She might look the same as Derpy...but inside, I think they have changed more than they realize...at least for me. It hurts more than you might think...Still, I'm sorry if I seemed hurtful...I never meant to hurt your friend.....I'm hurt myself.

Well, sorry for being such a big shit about this, I didn't think it was THAT personal a connection. ;;
Well, only time will tell. Just hope for the best right now and continue to just support what you like. Thats all I can say for now. :3

It's quite alright my man. Just also realize there are people like me who are very genuinely hurt and are only lashing out in pain and protest about it. A lot of us really. really have personal connections to her and while there are indeed ones that want to string hasbro by the neck right now, this is a state of mourning and uncertainty for Derpy's fans and many are just scared, confused, heartbroken and hurt. Some even (like me) feel alone for being called butthurt over it because they don't understand what she represented to that person.
I feel for you and your friend, I really do...but try to understand how they feel. Right now, they don't know any better and are just want something they lost, returned. In the midst of that they become over-zealous...but inside, like me...they are just sad.
I apologize in advance for them...it's a scary time for us as fans and some of us just feel angry right now. I think I speak for all Derpy fans when I say we don't want to hurt anyone...

Well okay, at least you don't mean any harm at all and you've not caused any, so you're good.
I won't repeat myself, you already have my sentiments. But in short, hope things turn out for the best but I also hope whichever opinions we have, we can all be understanding of them and not hurt anyone in the process neither. ^^ And I know not all of you guys are and thank goodness thats the case but...yeah, hope things turn out for the better for everyone. :3

You're welcome! ^^ And I always knew not all the people who are opening their voices up over this stuff who are on the side of Derpy are like what I've seen, but its lovely to know there's more and more people who feel the same but treat it with a lot more maturity, dignity and respect like you do so, in a way, it has made me feel a little better so thank you.
And likewise!

Nonono, but the fact is that you gave us a present... then took it back. Pony does not simply give a present then take it back, it's sad. We really liked the present and we really want it back. MLP will always be nice for sure, but that decision was at least cruel. I hope no ones give up, still. The fact MLP is good without derpy does not make the fact they took off derpy any better...

its not the artist fault though. They have to do what their contract tells them.

Derpy's still going to be on the show. There's official confirmation by this guy here, a GUY WHO WORKS ON THE SHOW. The one thing that's changed is one single scene in one single episode of the show. Things will be like they always have.

The scene where they name Derpy with the name first given by fans is present that represents a link between hasbro and fans, but you talk as if it has almost no importance. I uderstand your opinion, but i don't share it. I still think to take that scene off was something big, and that even though derpy will still be in the show, as a bg pony, it does not cover the loss. I hope at least she is called as derpy again someday.

Then at least don't shit on other people for having different opinions than you, okay? Especially not people like Yamino who had NOTHING to do with it.
Because the thing that's wrong here isn't feeling that they shouldn't of done this with that scene, no its fine to feel that way! What *is* bad is making people feel shit about having differing opinions on something as trivial as an animated kids show where the cause of the distress is the alterations of one single scene, a scene less than 5 minutes long, in one single episode of the show. People need to realise that its okay to share your opinions, but to be hostile other people sharing differing opinions on the same trivial subject matter is *not* okay.

I didn't know it wasn't yamino when i commented. I just told her if it were her the one who changed Derpy somehow, that i'd still love and tolerate her, but would not forgive. When right away someone linked me to here, i commented again on her deviant apologyzing myself, even though i never HATED her and eve stated that. I'm ok with differet opinions, but i'm not ok when different opinions somehow affects me. I thought it was the case, i was wrong. So i apoligyzed. Anyway, i tried to keep myself polite and follow the love and tolerance philosophy we all know all the way.
Whether the "animated kids show" is trivial or not, it depends. It's not that trivial for me. It's art in a very modern way, that made me somehow fall in love. Also, Lauren always stated that she never done the show for it to be kids only. That's what make it special.
