IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT QUESTIONS
Well, the thing is that soon after I made this tutorial, I stoped using PMDE, and that means I don't remember almost anything about it. So if you have any questions, I'm sorry, but I highly doubt I can answer them D:
This is the first tutorial I ever made. Hope it's ok and easy to understand...
It's about how to delete a part of the model, but not a whole section :3
I'll make more tuts later if needed ^^

For some reason, whenever I try to select the "S", it (along with many others) is greyed out.

If it's in the first step, maybe the window is already open?
If it's in the selection step, maybe you un-selected it by mistake? Because I think the option doesn't appear unlease there's a part selected

I think you save the part in another window, go to its location in My Documents, then drag it onto pmd editor. Then click add?

No it doesn't. S separates what part of the MA you selected from the rest of the MA.
EX: when you have haku's front hair and ponytail in the same MA, select haku's front hair and click S then. Haku's front hair is now seperated from her ponytail.
I know the model in the picture is Miku, but Haku is my example ewe

Try Ctrl+P (Unless your on a Mac then it's Command+P I think)

Ah, sorry. Windows Vista is a total mistery for me. Never learned how to work with it, and never cared about doing it xD
What I did was right click on the section with no number, and there (P) appears as one of the options (like S, F, Q, etc)

I don't remember where I got my PMDE from .__.
But I recomend you to check a forum called VocaloidOtaku. They have a lot of stuff about PMD

And what about if, for example I just want to remove Miku's bangs?
If I try to steal Miku bangs they come with her pigtails too but I just want the bangs

Try holding Ctrl and select the orange points in the pigtails to remove them. Once the only orange points you see are from the bangs, then separate it (right click over the section in the selection window, then click "S", as shown in the tut)
