Description
This is Nigel, an algae/coral symbiotic creature from the same RPG that Tryx is from (That one is a sci-fi "space opera")."Nigel is the first of his kind. Two seemingly unrelated alien species have come together to form this almost independently developing life form, though its true nature has yet to be revealed. The primary species (the lump of coral) is an aquatic based life form with intensely strong psychic powers. Showing a hive-mind nature, the species is very much seen as a whole being. It was made known to a certain crew that this species had required a home due to their's having been destroyed, and so it was that they were brought to Earth with the requirement that they do not disturb the ecosystem. However, after a trip deep into Earth's ocean it was found that the alien had spread to an immensely large area in a very short amount of time. Though the ship's crew had other priorities, Tryx was completely enthralled by such a life form. During the crew's down time, Tryx took it upon herself to go study the alien, which she and the ship's AI had dubbed "Psy-Choral." It was here that a chunk had fallen off in front of Tryx, and as she picked it up, she found that it resonated with a large amount of energy. It was here that she adopted the small chunk and kept it in a tank for further research. During her time on the ship, Tryx began to develop a relationship with the alien, and she eventually gave it the name "Nigel."
Upon a few sessions of studying the creature, Tryx had begun to wonder if this chunk could develop some form of independence from the source considering it could survive while being so far away. During her research, Tryx found out of a dynamic species of algae that had very abstract properties. When an electric current ran through the algae, it could expand and contract, much like human muscle tissue. As the alien was very much helpless on it's own, Tryx felt that if she were to help create some form of symbiotic relationship between the Psy-Choral and the algae, Nigel could walk and develop much more freely. After a quick detour to the home planet of this algae, Tryx introduced a small sample to Nigel's tank. After just a day, Tryx found a very thick membrane of algae around Nigel. Overjoyed, Tryx felt this was the prime opportunity to help guide Nigels development. As Nigel came from a psychic-based creature, Tryx would spend some time near Nigels cage going over basic biological development for a bipedal creature (she focused on such a complex form as she wanted to see how far Nigel could develop). In addition to these sessions, Tryx began to work on a way to project her thoughts and emotions using Psi as well as reading others. Any Psi user on the ship could have told you that Nigel was already mimicing Tryx's emotions at this point.
However, during one mission, Tryx was not on the ship looking after Nigel. In fact, she was captured by a ruthless army and was on the verge of attempting an escape. Back on the ship, the crew was surprised to see Bellatryx having come back in time once more. She quickly made it to Nigel's tank and began running a procedure that sped up his development unbelievably fast. As he absorbed more and more water, Nigel eventually became a completely sentient being, although still very much a developing life form. Bellatryx left as quickly as she arrived, and Nigel found himself wanting Tryx. He called out to the universe to help him, and he had managed to summon the entirety of the Psy-Coral to his location. Tryx was retrieved, but intense negotations had to be made with the aliens once again, revealing the very brash and severe nature of the Psy-Coral. As Tryx arrived on the ship, she was overjoyed to see Nigel "walking" around, but it was quickly brought to the crew's attention that he must be under intense supervision. Though Tryx urged the crew that she could take care of him, tensions still remain high as this mysterious new life form takes residence aboard the ship."
Yeah, this all happened during the game, essentially. I wasn't expecting Nigel to play such a major role in the story, but I'm happy with how it all turned out. His connection to Tryx was one of the main reasons she stayed aboard the ship (as with Tryx's nature, she has threatened to abandon it numerous times...). She often felt like he was her only friend on the ship, and whenever people began to take an interest in him after he showcased such power, Tryx became very defensive.
As far as Bellatryx is concerned, she definitely cares for Nigel. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to survive as long as she did, but he did offer her a grand companionship. His development exceeded her expectations, and she was very sad to have lost him. He's saved her life quite a few times and made himself known throughout the galaxy. When she travels back in time to a time when Nigel isn't quite so mature, he finds it difficult to diffrientiate between Tryx and Bellatryx (much to Tryx's chagrin, haha).
But thanks for everyone taking an interest in him (at least enough to read all of this). Let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to talk about his psychology, his biology, his history, his future, etc. : DD

Why thank you very much! The backstory actually came about from my tabletop gaming group just through roleplay and the main story set in place by our GM. : P
