Description Here is a statue I sculpted, cast, and painted for Dreamworks Animation Fine Art. It measures a little over 12" tall and 10" wide. It was quite a project, requiring input and approval from Dreamworks Animation.

I'm sorry, but I feel as if this sculpture has some issues with Toothless. His anatomy is off. You tried to make his arms more human like by popping them out to the side and having a pronounced shoulder. It's also to high, which is not what his design looks like. His arms stick down like a elephant arm. He does not have much weight to make him do this, if you look at him you can see he bends down like a lizard, he just looks like he's got human arms. Overall he just looks quite weird. Here's the image I'm referring that too :images6.fanpop.com/image/photo…

I wouldn't call it a perfect statue by any stretch, and Toothless does have his fair share of difficult aspects, mainly that his body shape is not terribly rigid.Β  It was a struggle to find a good middle point, depending on his position, his shape would change so much.Β  Thanks for the critique, done in a polite way, it is very beneficial and constructive.

Excellent work indeed!

While I know this statue has been sold out for long time, do you by any chance know of anyone who may be interested in selling or trading out his/hers? I would really love to get one. It's so beautiful!

Thank you!

Sadly I don't know of anyone willing to sell their statue. Β I do hope to do a new statue at some point, I loved the second movie as much as the first!

I was wondering, if by any chance, what paint you used? I'm trying to do a toothless sculpture for an art project at school and I'm having trouble finding the right paint color to use.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Insinder [2014-06-17 00:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply. Β I used acrylic paint for Toothless, his color was tricky, pretty much a very dark purple (really almost black), then a dry brush coat of a slightly lighter blue/purple. Β Apply the dry brush in a splotchy pattern.

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much! Β To do all of his fine scales, I used a set of stamps that I made. Β It was a time saver!

Silverwerewolves In reply to KyleMillard [2014-03-06 19:10:59 +0000 UTC]

ow that sounds cool , did you use any kind of fabric, or leather? I have just gotten into sculpting, so I like to get as many tips as possible.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Silverwerewolves [2014-03-07 04:55:15 +0000 UTC]

It was a neat trick that helped a lot.Β  What I did was, using super sculpy, I made all sorts of designs on a rounded section, then added a handle, baked it so it would harden, then tested it out.Β  It took some trial and error, but eventually I had a set of stamps that would do the trick.Β  A major thing I have learned when sculpting, is play around, whenever I am going to add texture, I test different techniques on a piece of junk clay, until I find something that looks good.

I was fortunate enough to snag one of these before they sold out. Truly a magnificent piece of art, I can tell you put your heart and soul into it. You captured Toothless' handsomeness so well and the detail is astonishing.

I can't wait to see it up close in person... whenever it does arrive. Dreamworks Animation Fine Art sent me a "shipped" notice 3 weeks ago, but when I inquired after some time had passed they told me there was an error and they didn't actually send it (uh... okay). They now tell me it's sending sometime this week, but they sure keep me in the dark on the details. I was fearing the worst case, that perhaps they sold too many and they end up refunding my money (I hope not). I don't know, it's my first time dealing with that company.

Thanks! Can't wait for you to get it! I sent out the second batch of five statues yesterday, send me a note with your real name and I will tell you if you were in that batch. You should be, the last two batches are to an online store, and someone who bought three.

Is it possible to buy them directly from you, instead of passing by a third party ? At least that way I will know the money goes to the right hands which really deserves it. Thanks, and again AMAZING work !

I wish, but legally they were not mine to sell. Sorry!
