Description Outside Minco, OK - 5/16/2010

Imagine if you will, an ancient Greek Trireme made of clouds and thunder sailing across the green grasslands and wheat fields looking to make war with the land and it's inhabitants...

Or maybe not...This is a dying thunderstorm that just recently passed over the small Oklahoma town of Minco. This particular storm grew very rapidly and fell apart just as fast. It did however drop nickel sized hail before it fizzled into nothing. This storm was connected to line of intense storms that dropped massive amounts of hail on the Oklahoma City area, resulting in millions of dollars in damage. For me, I stayed on the sunny side and admired the cloud structure and rainbows. You can find two segments of a rainbow, bridged together by the evaporating thunderstorm. Big skies, open fields, the purity of farmland, and a love of the land...

I noticed that bit in the center too. It almost looks like... a waterfall. Or cloudfall. Whatever caused that formation, it definitely is fascinating.

Wow, right in the center, those are some incredibly defined rain and/or hail shafts

These past two years, I've been really trying to pay more attention to specific elements in these storms...so when I see these type of things, it may not be the first time I've seen it...but it's the first time I've really noticed it! I find stuff like that bizarre b/c it literally looks like three scratch marks. I didn't even notice it when I was standing there, but definitely see it now in the photos. It gives a lot of merit at photographing stuff like this to study later when you not amped up trying to get from here to there and in position.

Yeah, that's kind of weird looking...I had to go back and look at that individual photo in the pano again to make sure something hadn't messed up when I stitched them together, but sure enough it's there! Have you ever seen any that slim and defined before?

Honestly, not that I can recall. Guess I've only been paying close attention to storms for a couple years though. Check it out on the right, too. The dark rain abruptly ends toward the right edge of the structure. So cool!
