Holo struggled against her chains, the merchants who had bound her having not been frugal enough to let her break them. She supposed she should have been suspicious when Lawrence invited her to drink as much as she wanted at the tavern, counting on her overextending herself on cider. He must have sold her off yet again to pay off his debts. She knew he'd make every effort to buy her back, but the consortium that had taken him up on his offer had stashed her in a massive crate, normally used for (and still full of) bulk wheat. The wise wolf had tried whining through her ball gag every time footsteps had come close, but no one had responded. This was no way for a goddess to be treated, especially one with a hangover.
