Oki didn't have a choice in remaining silent. The first thing the pack of Oina sent to apprehend him had done was to tie a cloth tightly over his mouth, securing it with a rope over his muzzle, the first of several. He'd expected humiliation, but he had not expected to have his hind legs suddenly spread wide, a bamboo pole keeping them an uncomfortable distance apart. At the suggestion of his mate, such as it counted, a rope had been attached to his tail, keeping it raised and him exposed. This was totally unfair, he thought. How could Kai had spread the story that he'd been sleeping around with that white-furred goddess, not just to her friends, but to the entire community? Why would she subject him to an adultery charge when no such event had ever taken place?

Another Oina came forth, describing the liaison that had never occurred, incriminating the bound warrior further. Oki was used to the pain of battle, but this was going to be entirely different. Already Samickle, orchestrating the council from the back of the room, held the stiff birch rod that would do the talking once a decision had been reached on how great a punishment to mete out. Quite unlike himself, Oki whined through his gag, trying to catch the eye of Kai as she sat quite comfortably in the front of the pack. Clearly, she was showing him who would be running things in their household. It was all so unfair, the male thought again. He did not deserve this humiliation, not when all he had done was attracted unwanted attention!
