Even though Oki disliked the uncomfortably warm climate of Ryoshima Coast, he'd heard a relaxing journey at sea was a pleasing thing to do, so he'd gladly taken his divine companion Amaterasu on the most comfortable ship he could find. That comfort had lasted one night. The day after setting sail, their vessel had encountered that perennial scourge of the waters of Nippon, pirates. The hostile ship had struck as rapidly as a rampaging dragon, and before the warrior could come to the defense ... not that he was particularly skilled in the delicate business of fighting on a ship ... both canines had been taken hostage. Oki had attempted to negotiate, even pointing out that a career in fishing would certainly be less risky, but the raiders didn't want to hear any of it.

Crueler than the uncaring oceans, the maritime criminals had thoroughly, perhaps even excessively, bound their two new prizes. Rope was by no means uncommon on board a naval craft, after all, and they’d used it for everything, even the tight cleave gags reinforced by heavy muzzles. Amaterasu and Oki had both done their best to struggle, but the best they'd managed was to convince their captors their guests were both dangerous and valuable. As a result, both male and female wolf hung from their harnesses upside-down, a potentially painful distance above the floor. And if that wasn't enough, their prison just so happened to be the ship's powder hold. Amaterasu wouldn't dare use her Brush Techniques in here! Oki was grateful at least there was no burning fuse or ticking watch: that would just have been silly.
