It had seemed that the gold was there for the taking ... at least until its final defense was awoken. Amaterasu and Oki had had very little trouble breaking into the vault containing the accumulated treasure of decades of ill-gotten gains, and they were impressed by the volume of wealth on hand, far more than they could ever have carried out. Oki had intended to loot efficiently, taking the contents of the wooden chests scattered about, but his divine companion had seemed reluctant to touch the boxes, so instead they'd dove into the heap of precious metals at the room's center. The idea that there could be a trap here was absurd, so when the magic imbued into the gold itself was awoken, it took the two canines completely by surprise.

The lustrous metal didn't exactly melt, but despite its cool temperature it had begun flowing with shocking rapidity, snaring the white wolf and her warrior ally before they could do more than bark in alarm. Gold foil and gold braid enwrapped them, dropping them to the pile of yellow and bronze coins that seemed to engulf them. People didn't quite understand how heavy metallic gold was, the weight leaving them unable to pull up their paws, the solid gold ball that had swirled and solidified in their mouths a tiring burden even with the golden ring around their muzzles. When everything was done, there were quite a few less loose coins about, the metal now used to entrap the interlopers. Oki had no idea what to do, least of how he was going to explain yet another glaring blunder to Amaterasu!
