My song is the Lightning
My voice, the thunder
My woman, the Rain
My fear, the silence
My war, against Death
My strength, the Love
My people, those whose don't forget
My blood is their will
I'm the god of the lightning
who defeat the foreigner gods
and i crush the stones, and make them fall
They call me the Snake of Light
They call me the Lord of Clouds
They call me the three feet lightning
I'm the heart that beat strong in th Sky
I'm Tláloc
You know, the Xi'Oi here near my town still worship Tlaloc. For they (and me) he is the god of thunder, husband of Chalchiutlicue, the Woman with Jade Skirt (Rain). Most of gods for nahuatl peoples and northern nomads become "divines" marrying with the goddess, as here, Tlaloc, married with Rain, or Mictlántecuhtli, Lord of the dead, married with Mictecihuatl, the Death (the one worshiped at november 2nd).
There is a story about Tlaloc. When spanish conquerors stablished in this area, they build a catholic temple over the old Tlaloc temple. The Xi'Oi identified the christian god as the "light god", the sun, a minor god in this place (the Sun was the major god at south).
At the front of the church, they made the indians to sculpt the Archangel Michael (the fired one) killing the Dragon. They identified that as "the christian god defeating Tlaloc".
But not for too long time.
Just a year after that, the next raining season, a great storm hits the area, and a lightning strucked the church, destroying the archangel statue, leaving the dragon harmless...
So, this is the only catholic church where people worships the dragon, the lightning serpent, Tlaloc...

And How to sing it?

yeah, it's nahuatl, it was singed/prayed with music: drums, chalchiqueles and flutes, but mainly big drums, evoking the sound of thunder.
the part where i'm doubting (and most of researchers, indeed) about the source of this old hymn, is the fact that they call "México" the land, when the original name that the peoples and aztecs give to the land was "Cem Anahuac", roughly translated as "there sorrounded by water", how they called the whole "american" continent. 'Cause, yeah, aztecs knew there were another peoples north and south and that the "land" was big, there are legends about aztec merchants trading stuff (small amounts, of course) from places like Peru and Ecuador, and "hunting" apaches and sioux warriors to offer as sacrifice. (That last, in fact, never stopped... here at my town were celebrated sacrifices, at least the local chronist says, at 1923 or something like that, the "New Fire", where you take a warrior, take off his heart, and then try to begin a fire inside his chest. Chronists says that they brought an Apache warrior that time... the sacrifice place was at the foot of a mountain, inside an old spaniard dam)

Where dose poem from?
It is Chant?
It is so happy that not all native worshiper not tortured and burnt by Spanish badass. It is so impress that defeat of European religion!
I read about excavation of Mesoamerican relic in 19c. you know, the scholar hire native people for physical labor. The scholar said, native people ask to be excused to gods before cutting woods. and native people think all structures made by their gods! and still worship going on!
It is interest that worship of Mictlántecuhtli. Doesn't under-world and lord of it always regard as evil to people? and you know Mictlántecuhtli troll Quetzalcoatl, when taking back of human bone for create new one! why and how to worship Mictlántecuhtli?

Ricarlos In reply to l2lMrFox [2014-01-09 17:10:46 +0000 UTC]
it's a chant i writed bassed on the old xi'oi way of pray, that's why it sounds a little like a lethany.
About Mictlántecuhtli (Lord of Mictlán), he was a feared god, but the real "divine" was his wife, Mictecihuatl, because the lord of Deads died every 52 years with the sun (when the civilians and religious calendar paired).
So, Mictecihuatl choose a mortal husband to wear the Mictlántecuhtli's mask. If you were a soul-cold man, wishing for material goods, she may choose you to become her husband, but you had to bear the horror of living dead, using the mask you can see a person, but when you see the face, you see the newly born face mixed with the dead rotting face. You could see the destiny of people and things, and that's the "not so nice" side of marry her. Seeing past and future, often it's more a curse than a gift...
In the Dead's Day, or Death's day, we mexicans make an altar, a little shrine for the dead, where we put the pictures of the relatives and friends already gone. We serve food, their favourite food, wine, mezcal, tequila, beer, some people even put their clothes near, and paper with the Death's colors, black and purple, with yellow/orange flowers that bloom on that season, the cempoalxochitl (20 leafted flower) making a little "road to home". The candles must be keeped lighted day and night (actually, there use to be a lot of fires on that days).
We dress our little girls as Catrinas too. I think i have a pic about it on my gallery, but if don't, i'll upload it later. Catrina it's one of the "avatars" of Death, a fancy dressed and elegant woman who takes the life of richs and poors equally, 'cause "La muerte todo empareja" (Death everything flats). This image of Death was very popular in the Revolution, as a reminiscense of Mictecihuatl. Even there is a semicatholic cult, the "Holy Death Church", but they are more like voodoo than real indigenous peoples.
In fact, there are some MLP fans that draw Rarity as Catrina, because of their elegance and generosity.

What happened to mortal husband of Mictecihuatl after 'Dead's Day Festival'?
Day before yesterday (31th Jan.) was Asian New Year's Day. We also make little alter and served food, rice wine to relatives already gone. miss and yearn for relatives already gone same everywhere.
As you know, Dudes from Europe are quit aggressive. So, many 'believers' killed and tortured by Europe Dudes. It's very interesting that many Aztec Tradition still goes until now I wonder how they keep their tradition, despite of Aggressive Europe Dudes.

the "ex husband" just become another living mindless skeleton adorned with gold, an instrument of Death.
About the way how the traditions survived, most of indians and "mestizos" (halfblood) mixed the old rituals with catholic rituals. An Example: Guadalupe's Virgin. There was an old ancient legend about a young girl that sacrifice herself to the gods to prevent another "world's ending", and then all people called her "Tonantzin", "our great mother". When the spaniards came, they realize that forcing aztecs as they did with the mayans would be harder, so they made up a new legend, about the "Virgin Mary", a catholic deity, becoming a savior for indians by appearing to a fallen indian lord, Juan Diego. That's how "Virgen de Guadalupe" became the great deity at México,
As a note aside, the bishopric of México City was in a kind of "fight" with the Bishopric of Guadalajara, whom used the same way to convince the west indians. The Mexico city priests were kind of envious because of all the money they collected from the people, so they decided to make up all this thing...

Mesoamerican History is interesting.
Sadly, very limited information source available in here.
I learned kings of 4th-5th century try to combine Buddhism and shamanism,
when they adopt Buddhism for national religion.
So, there so many Buddhish stuff in my national mythology.
Spenish dudes did just same way!
(I know Mesoamerican mythology is pure.)
Priests can survive without money from people?
As you well know, maybe they can't.
But, I feel so sad about some priests and monks think money more than deities and thier people!

The Franciscan Order, founded by Francisco de Asis some centuries ago, tried to recover the "holy poverty" to the church. They failed... but some of their thinking prevails in the "freedom theology", and even the actual pope, named after the order's founder, is trying to clean up all the political and financial crap out of church...
Sadly, for most of catholics, Franciscans are viewed as some kind of "hippies", "idealistic but naive"... and well, they feed up that believing, they are an strange mix between "eco friends" and "animistic christians", (they call Sun and Moon "my brother and sister").
About Buddhism, my dad is a follower of Bodhi Dharma or something like that. He is catholic too, but he makes his own rituals...
I'm a Tlaloque, so... LOL

Nowdays, Some churchs have so many money.
The Money came form 'tithe'.
So they can build castle or fortress like vice-headquarter building! :
well.hani.co.kr/files/attach/i…
well.hani.co.kr/files/attach/i…
Near my home, There are one of biggest church in Korea.
The church already have two 'vice-headquarter' near them.
Also, The church run very big department-store-like shopping mall.
Few years ago, may be 5 or 7 years ago, the church build underground parking lot.
But one 2-storey building next to church started collapse.
So, the church bought that building and demolish them! instead of compensate them.
About Buddhism, My mom goes One of The Big Buddhish Temple.
The Temple on the center of Seoul, and The temple is like headquarter to most of Buddhish People.
Anyway, Mother tell me a rumor that 'how to monks get needed money'.
When Monks tell Rich and Enthusiastic Devotee, The Devotee bring Money to Monks!
They donot care how much the monks needed!
Anyway, Some people said : 'the money must returned to people through donation and volunteer, not fancy building or festival.'
My father and My brother and I have no religion.
But sometimes, I reach hand to sky and prey to Quetzalcoatl.
(I donot heat my body parts with fire or pierce body like original Aztec priests.)
I prey them to give me a strength and wisdom and luck.
Surprisingly, The prey work well!

Very Sorry for annoying question.

"Here S.Korea, There are very limited books about Aztec-Maya-Inca.
Literally, you can count them with your one hand!
But the book give summarized information.
And also few internet site (like ko.mythology.wikia.com/) provide information about Aztec-Maya-Inca.

mmmm about Itzamná, there are a lot of stories and beliefs. I.E. they said that Itzamná brought the northenr mayan people from beyond the Jade Sea (the Caribbean) opening a path and walking at the sea bottom sorrounded by walls of water (Like Moses, from the jewish Bible) and coming to the actual "Isla Mujeres" (Women's Island) just the east of Yucatán.
This has been take it by some "UFO" believers like a proof that Mayan people were Atlanteans.
Funny, at his image (from a book that i can't find yet) he is seated like an Ahau (lord) offering a chaliss (a "grial") with something like light above it... that's why catholic priest hold a grudge against the mayan codexs, because they thought that their simmilitudes and alikes with christian bible and rithuals just were a mockering inspired by the Devil...
Anyway, Itzamná was like the norse Odin, a wise traveler who give the people the means to survive after coming to this land.
of course, there are a lot of legends about him, but this is the main i can remember right now.
I hope you had succes on your school, by the way
