Description Two identical unicursal labyrinths nested one within the other. This is 1/9 of a larger piece, nested within a third identical labyrinth (not shown here) which expands beyond the edge of the paper. The bands of the innermost labyrinth measure 1mm in width. The work was done with the mighty 0.10 Faber-Castell TG1-S rapidograph, the finest hair-thin pen tip in existence (and now sadly discontinued).

Thank you for commenting? The last time I looked in the art store, I didn't see any of the small size rapidos. Did they really stop making them? I haven't looked in a long time. I've been using Rotrings, and also got a bunch of Faber Castell 0.13 size when they stopped making them. But those are really hard to make work...

I'll take informations and I'll let you know. I had grteat problems years ago in finding what I needed here where I live, so I suppose it's worst ans worst... Actually I work with .70 (not very thin) , I only have one, so I treat him as a baby !!!

Ethereal, eternal, cryptic and ancient... beautiful work.
(...and a .10 rapidograph? You maniac! The nib of anything under a .30 bends or jams on me the second I take the cap off...)

The key is in the smoothness of the paper...check my journal entry on the Euro-US Canson bristol controversy. Though I have to agree that rapidos are quite bastardly little tools. I am slowing overhauling to brush. I wish I had a good photo of this piece...this scan sucks, shows nothing-I hate to but I have to brag about the one thing I think I mastered and that is microcosmic detail, none of which shows up here-and I mean insanely small worlds within worlds. Too bad this piece got sold, I've been trying to get the owner to send me some photos!

I can even see from the bird view an amazing octogonal temple, would be wonderful to see it in profile or front view emerged from the ground!

A great work, no dubtes about!

Thank you for the comment, I am glad you like it! I would consider this a more traditional 'ersian' style view of the octagon, which is a way of saying that I know nothing of how to do perspective...but this particular bird's eye view of the labyrinth plays into the dual symbolism of the labyrinth: one is either seeing it all simulatneously, floating detached above in a state of amniotic freedom (death or pre-life) or one is ensconced within, seeing only the two sheer walls and the winding path ahead (life in the machine of flesh). This view of the labyrinth is the former...

what an obsession with details, this is amazingly cool and quite unique......I really like the way you have broken the labrynthine lines up into smaller patterns...it's really mesmerising.....[*sigh*..I also mourn teh passing of many an uber-fine pen....I use metal nibs a lot,but it's hard to beat fineliners]

The Faber-Castell .10 is so damn temperamental! I could only get it to work in hot, dry weather, which is strange because it needs to be kept moist in order that the ink doesn't dry up inside. From my experience, it seems like these pens would work best in a desert...makes no sense. Anyway, I very much appreciate your deep look into this piece. I only wish the scan could do it justice. There is so much more in there, so much more subtelty, that is not visible on the screen. It seems like the whole point of the piece (which is insane microcosm) gets lost in translation to the screen. But I am glad you like it anyway!

Wow, wonderful construction and textures. I like how the diagonal lines (those who slice the labyrinth in pizza parts) make it look slightly three dimensional which in combination with the textures and details confuses the eye.

Yes, confusion for the eye means enjoyment, far as I see...I am glad you enjoy it, I just with I had some better pictures of this. It was up in a gallery for some time, and the gallery owner ended up buying it! I practically gave it away, with all the work I put into it, but at the time I didn't give a damn because it looked good in her house, and I felt that if anyone liked my drawing enough to put it in their gallery, they should have the drawing! I need to get some new photos of this one...
