Description
I keep destroying the new pieces I am trying to complete, so until the gods of ink smile upon me again, I will release another oldie that was crucial to my artistic evolution.Piece begun in summer 2001, in Rome, completed in Sana'a, Yemen in early winter 2002. On this drawing I began migrating into using larger size rapidograph tips like the 0.3 and the 0.5, combining them with the 0.1; it's funny, but I was so attached to the 0.1 up to that point, that I had to force myself to try out the larger tips. This drawing perhaps reflects the different stages of human existence, symbolized by obvious devices such as the fetus, but also stranger images such as 'flayed' torso; and heraldic insects (death's head moth, and bee) and of course the labyrinth. The black backgrounds and part of the ouroboros are completely textured by rapidograph strokes, in a very laborious but meditative process.
0.1, 0.3, 0.5 rapidgraph, ink, two connected A3 bristol sheets

Like said over 3 years ago, this would indeed make a great piece of album art. Has that happened yet? Sure would be interesting...
Your idea of Ouroboros fascinates me. It turns it into so much more than all the other cartoony round or 8-shaped dragons here on DA. This transcends and elaborates the cycle called Ouroboros.
Come to think of that... Wonder what this'll bring to my mind when I look at it again at night, while listening to some ritualistic ambient like Arktau Eos...

I've probably said this before about your work, but I'm in awe. Hyper-detail aside, the composition and execution of this piece is nothing short of amazing. I can't tell you how many times I just paused to stare at a certain section and to wonder, "how the hell did he do that?" Incredible stuff, man--truly incredible.

I didn't take the time to comment on this when I favorited it, but seeing your reply upon my page, I made the choice to come back and appreciate its astounding complex simplicity.
I spent some time looking at it, and I find myself still amazed by the lines and swirls of this, it seems almost as though it's a thousand circles upon the snake of eternity. Beginning as it does with chaotic darkness and humanities fetal beginnings passing through the moth of death and then the corpse of humanity into pure order {the pictorial centers of the folds of The Ouroboros that is} almost hold a mirror to the past and present situation of the world, and possibly its future. Unfortunately I see more death than life in this picture, but then it could just be because it lacks colour. Once again, this is quite an amazing piece of art, such that I can't help but stare in awe xD
Sorry for being so long winded 0.o

Thank you for coming back, and your in-depth comment. It means a lot to me. I know, this piece is a bit dark, and actually scares me a bit. Funny thing is, I wasn't trying to be dark, it always seems to come out that way though. I appreciate your words on this piece, it is great for me to have feedback like this...
