Description
I keep destroying the new pieces I am trying to complete, so until the gods of ink smile upon me again, I will release another oldie that was crucial to my artistic evolution.Piece begun in summer 2001, in Rome, completed in Sana'a, Yemen in early winter 2002. On this drawing I began migrating into using larger size rapidograph tips like the 0.3 and the 0.5, combining them with the 0.1; it's funny, but I was so attached to the 0.1 up to that point, that I had to force myself to try out the larger tips. This drawing perhaps reflects the different stages of human existence, symbolized by obvious devices such as the fetus, but also stranger images such as 'flayed' torso; and heraldic insects (death's head moth, and bee) and of course the labyrinth. The black backgrounds and part of the ouroboros are completely textured by rapidograph strokes, in a very laborious but meditative process.
0.1, 0.3, 0.5 rapidgraph, ink, two connected A3 bristol sheets

you know when a piece of art is just so interesting and familiar and....... SOMETHING that you just want to like...swallow it? Make it a part of you?
I have this feeling only rarely
when an idea or a feeling or a notion or a thing or even sometimes a person hurts me just a little to see it/them- you know?
painful to have it existing somewhere out there and yet not somehow be an actual physical part of you...
that ache.
This has that familiar sense....
you know?
painful to be human and separate and physical and alone.
blah!
blasted words.

/very/interesting graphic....it's like you have, visually represented all the "O's" in Ouroboros[and I love Eddison's 'The Worm Ouroboros]...it starts out...with what in the small version...looks like a camera lens....then seems to become more...2D yet sculptural as it goes down....I like the combination of...runes,mythological figures..and abstract representations of the cosmos...infinitely contemplatible
...and the bg is just astonishing?...it has that...meditative quality of eastern sand and flower paintings...I'm sure it is the symbolism of a lost and arcane culture?

Thank you for this great comment! I appreciate your closer look into this. Never read Eddison, but not for lack of trying, I think I just couldn't penetrate his writing style, though I wanted to!

Thank you Peter, this is an oldie, but I couldn't resist putting it up here. I like it better now, the symbolism works in a way I never imagined.

Isn't that one of those death's head moths, like in Silence of the Lambs? God there's so much to look at here. This is really amazing. You should set it up as a print....this would look great on peoples' walls!

Most definitely a death's head moth. Not inspired by the movie though...those little beasts, and all moths in general, really trip me out. They are in a different kind of zone from other insects. Thinking something. Oh, I like your print suggestion! When I see a work of art, the ultimate way I judge it is to imagine it on my wall...

People seem to be digging this. And I have to say that putting this up has made me like it a lot more. I feel detached from it, seeing it from afar.

Thank you my friend! I am trying to coax them back into my studio by cleaning it up, rearranging, and infusing the feng-shui action. And just focusing on doing quicker works in a more refined style. It is difficult to think so much, I have to sometimes just go crazy with ink! I will talk to you soon, write back and let me know what you're up to. I am always checking out your works for inspiration, so hope you post more soon!

Doing quicker works might be the best way. Something done all fast and crazy might just wake up those sleeping ink gods.
Thanks. I haven't been too productive lately. Just going out and enjoying the weather while it lasts. When it gets hot, sticky and humid later on, then I'll spend more time at home drawing.
I've started three pieces, but they've been collecting dust.

I, like Chuck, must say that this is also my favorite so far. You really must start carving your images into flesh. Maori style.

Glad you like it. This is a reallly old one and I was unsure if anyone would. As for Maori, I am fascinated by their art and tattooing...probably what got me into getting inked in the first place (along with borneo)...
