Julie propped herself against the wall. Her chest rose and fell from her anxious unneeded breaths. She pressed and gripped the top of her body - the smooth blank expanse between her shoulders. It wasn’t just her head that was removed; her neck was gone, too.

“You should’ve quit after the first lost bet, Julie,” said Wanda. She was holding her own neck in both hands. Her face scrunched up. She pushed on her neck. Slowly, her neck moved from being centered on her body to above her right breast, nearly above her right shoulder. “Then you would’ve got your head back after a few days.”

Julie took no notice of Wanda’s advice. After her hands were done confirming her decapitation, she adjusted her tits in her dress. She took two steps from the wall and bumped into a raised seat. After some blind touching of the furniture, Julie propped herself onto it. She was half-sitting, half-standing. She pointed to the air above her body, as though asking where her head had gone.

”Oh, that pretty little thing? It’s right here, babe.” Wanda picked up Julie’s head. Julie’s neck dangled from it. Her face was slack. Wanda lifted it carefully above her left breast and stuck the bottom of Julie’s neck onto her body. It attached to Wanda like it had always belonged to her. Wanda turned her head to her new one is it woke up and looked back at her. Both heads smiled.

The headless one was swaying in place. Her fingers were curling randomly. Sometimes her hands swiped the empty space above her body. Sometimes they patted down the surfaces around her. Her bumps and shuffles made sounds she couldn’t hear.

”You had to try to keep it, didn’t you?” Wanda said, with her own redhead.

”You risked losing it permanently with three words: double or nothing,” said Wanda, with the black-haired head that used to be Julie’s.

Julie couldn’t pay Wanda any mind - she had already paid the only mind she had.

”I wound up with double,” said Red. The two-headed Wanda walked to Julie and put her hands on her blank shoulders. Black continued, “You wound up with nothing.”

Julie squirmed as Wanda stroked her neckless expanse. Her hands blindly grasped Wanda’s body until they reached her necks - one hand finding each neck at the same time. Julie patted Wanda’s necks up to her heads. Julie realized what this meant and writhed in place. Her hands curled into fists and out again, in and out.

Wanda laughed in harmony with herself. She started speaking. Each head began its next sentence in the middle of what the previous head started saying, talking over each other but continuing the same train of thought.

”What, did you think I wanted your head for decoration?” “I wanted it to be a part of me.” “It’s my other head now, darling.” “It finally belongs to me.” “And I’m never giving it back.” “You don’t have a head anymore.” “Not a single head!” “I almost feel bad for you.” “Almost, but not quite.” “You can always get another one.” “But not this one.” “This one is mine.” “Or this one.” “It’s also mine.”

Wanda laughed again. She took Julie’s hand and began to walk. “Come on, bestie. Let’s head home.” “We might even help you find a replacement for the head you lost.” “Maybe.” “Maybe tomorrow.” “Maybe never.”

The two heads of Wanda cackled as they patiently led their bumbling headless friend out of the room. Julie clamored clumsily behind them. Her body jiggled from her erratic walk. Her free hand was raised in the air and swaying around.

She wondered what she could possibly do now that she lost her only head.
