Ek Balam is another powerful Mayan deity related to death, this like Camazotz relapsed in the Xibalba (Underworld or world of the dead in the Mayan culture), this was represented as a great black jaguar. The Mayans worshiped jaguars a lot for their great strength and great power, being many of the things that this symbolized, and especially black jaguars were considered by Mayan shamans and priests as harbingers of great catastrophic events, thinking that this would provoke disasters at night
It receives many other names, such as Iqui B'alam, Iqui-Balam, Iqui Balam and Iquib B'alam, in all of them the same root is conserved: "Balam", which simply means "jaguar" and "Ek" moon
