Description

Two new Genesis Dissentire characters, Nestor and Hestia!  And now for some good ‘ol infodumping~

  • Hestia is the leader of a large “tribe” in the Badlands
  • I’m not sure if I mentioned the Badlands yet, so I’ll give a brief synopsis about that: the Badlands on Genesis is basically a strip of the planet where the war was fought and a massive weapon discharged that cut a huge swathe in the crust.  Later, destroyed pieces of ships, vehicles, and robots were deposited there.  It’s now a massive junkyard roughly the size of the Himalayan Mountain Range where people wanting to escape the technological society of Genesis’s cityworld live
  • She lived in that area prior to the coup led by Ducard and watched as her home and a majority of the continent was destroyed around her when the supermassive weapon was discharged. She, her husband, and their three young boys made it out of the burning city to a district that was cooling off from the destruction. A lot of people were displaced and without everyday supplies for months before the new government of Unity sent in support
  • Hestia’s husband got a bad gash during their time scavenging around, looking for a safe place to sleep everyday. The wound was left untreated because they had no medical supplies readily available, and he didn’t want to alarm anyone so he didn’t let on how bad it was. The injury got septic and he died while battling a fever, leaving Hestia a widow with her boys
  • She helped to organize the people in her district and they started to act like a community. They were able to make do with older tech as Unity’s relief program petered out, and eventually denied Unity soldiers from entering the Badlands without a fight
  • When they got older, Hestia’s eldest boys–twins Castor and Pollux–went off to try to find less contaminated areas so that the tribe can set down permanent roots instead of being constantly on the move. Hestia still has a teenaged son, Myles, who she babies to no end.  Castor had a kid with his girlfriend, Aella, which his mother doesn’t know about. It’s a secret he only shared with his twin, Pollux
  • Myles wanted to join his brothers but he’s still young and not very strong, so they told him to stay with their mother. Hestia caught him trying to sneak off and follow the twins and has since kept a close eye on Myles
  • Hestia has sustained a lot of wounds during the time when she and her family were living hand to mouth following the aftermath of the explosion, and in fights with other tribes. She lost her right eye and had it replaced with an implant, along with her right ear, which she also has an implant for, in the same fight. She lost her left arm when it got sliced off during the explosion by burning hot debris, fortunately cauterizing it
  • Her right hand man is Nestor, (pictured here) a big guy who got slashed in the throat with a shocker during a fight, cutting his vocal cords.  He never opted to get an implant so he could talk again because he doesn’t care enough about speaking and thinks that other people could use the tech for more important things. To communicate, he uses sign language and holotexts.  He also lost his wife in the initial explosion of the weapon. He’s a bit sweet on Hestia in his own gruff, stonily silent way

wow... whenever I think I'm having a bad day I'll just remember these two! They're probably not even recognizable anymore. I really like Nestor of course... such a heroic sacrifices on his part... but it is also a good excuse not to talk to people. I wonder how  these two will interact with the main characters?

LOL!  Most of the GenDis characters have had very rough pasts tbh...I don't know why I wrote them like that!!

I really ought to draw their "Pre Badlands" selves so people can get a sense of how much they were changed and formed by their circumstances over the years, you know, once I can settle on their younger looks! xD

So I settled that Genesis Dissentire is going to be somewhat episodic in its written format (like a TV show), which means I need a larger cast of side characters, which is where Hestia and Nestor come in!  This also means I need more "side villains," one of which I have some concept art for on my tumblr, but I really need to sit down and develop some more!

Yeah, it would be cool... or scary... to see the side by side comparison.

That sounds like an interesting way to write it. We would also get exposed to the world and lore a little bit easier too. you've stoked my interest even farther.

I already have some sketches of Hestia and her husband (who is now named Atlas), just got to work on Nestor >_>

Yeah, I was inspired by shows like Tron: Uprising and Motorcity and how they usually had a protag or groups of protagonists exploring the world around them and having to deal with the Big Bad and smaller Baddies along the way.

I always like side villains that, in their own way, take away from the main villain but still pose a threat to the heroes.

Oh gosh he looks like someone you shouldn't mess with, actually they both do, which is pretty fitting considering where they live, I expect it's not the best of places

Yeah, he's a juggernaut when he's on the warpath!  I keep getting the ridiculous idea to draw him with her on his shoulder shooting down enemies while on a date because that just pretty much sums up their relationship! lol

Just another normal day in the life of a Badlands survivor, I'm sure they'd get bored if the date went conventionally (in some impromptu 'restaurant' hastily constructed in the burned out shell of some aircraft or other. 'Would madam like the irradiated water, or the slightly less irradiated purified urine to go with her tinned steak substitute?')

Man! These poor people have been through it! Great job on the worldbuilding here and the backstories are really making these characters stand out. I love the colors you chose too. It really looks like a desolate place. Nestor is one of those characters I really enjoy. He's so tough but has feelings at the same time. It's almost as if he doesn't want to talk anymore due to the loss of his wife as well as the shortage of tech. Great story!

They sure have!  I've only been showing the "nice" sectors of Genesis so far, the Badlands is where people got hit really hard during the war (no pun intended lol).

Thank you so much!  I knew I wanted to go with an orange theme for the colors, and I'm glad that the starkness of the scene came across here!  I'm getting waaaay too attached/involved over my side characters in this story right now.

Stand alone side short stories! That's how you satisfy your want for more of your side characters!

Thanks!  I'll be posting more teaser stuff like this while I work on outlining the story.   I'm hoping to have Haddock & Isolde finished by the end of the year so I can devote my writing time to Genesis Dissentire next year!
