Aaaand we're back! Thank you for sticking it out and being patient with me as I scripted out Volume 2! You guys are amazing!
Chapter Five is all about Ivo and his delightful crew as they begin their search for Trenton. I'm also going to be drawing the lineart for the Volume 2 covers traditionally so I can keep an element of pen and paper in the comic (and plus I've found that I really like traditionally inking). If anyone is interested, I might sell the originals once the volume is complete too...
Due to me not having the contest prizes finished yet, I'll be dedicating all of next week to working on those so you'll have to go ONE more week without page one, but once I'm finished with those we'll be back to weekly updates again!

GAH! the hype! This is an interesting way to start volume 2, focusing on the villains... these people will be a lot more complex than your every day evildoers.
I'm really digging Ivo's get up, he has such a fancy edge to him. (I like the small glint from his metal hand.

Thank you so much! Well, Ivo is the fourth main character of the story so it's fitting that he gets a proper introduction like the last three have.
He likes to dress up on occasion (like for the scene in which this takes place), and has a wardrobe full of dandy duds like that cravat and waistcoat! 
Thank you! It's a nice break from staring at the screen too, haha! That's probably because I used the 0.05 multiliner for a lot of the little details and cross-hatching...I use tiny pens a lot because I tend to draw tiny. lol

Oh wow, the cover turned out great! I love the bold contrast in line thicknesses that the traditional inking imparted on this, it's really evident on that lovely row of airships on the right, and it's wonderful how much hustle and bustle you have going on, it's obvious that we're at a port and that so many other adventures are going on even apart from the main characters (like those three people at the back with the map, clearly embarking on something)
I also love the little pops of light on the airships and between the back buildings and Ivo's shoulder.
Those airships though, they're quite magnificent, I like the one on the top right, where we get to see all the details of the balloon itself and the little gondola under (or whatever it's called)

Thank you so much! The thick lines on those ships was actually because the initial lines were too wobbly so I just kept thickening them up to mask it. lol I thought about kicking myself when I realized that I had to draw a crowd again, but I used some techniques I've seen in other comics to make it more of a mass than having to draw individual people (that would've been a nightmare!)
I like to throw in people in the background who look like they'd have their own stories too to add some more depth to scenes like this.
Thanks! I thought about casting Ivo all in shadow, but realized after doing so that it would make him blend in with the background instead of stand out so I did the reverse.
Ohhh, I had a lot of fun with the airship designs! I'm usually not a fan of the ones where people just stick an 18th century sailing ship under a balloon (like on the far left), but I wanted to add some variety to the mostly dirigible-type ones floating around. ^__^

Oh lol I can understand the line thickening - though I think in this case it appears as a concious decision to add more line weights. Haha, you mean the 'amalgamation of silhouettes' technique? It works! And at least your crowds have visible features where it's really needed.
Yeah i think adding him in light was the better idea, as it highlights him as the main subject and the most important aspect of the page. I think shadow would have worked in a different layout, like if you had him lurking in a close up of the crowd (it makes more sense in my head)
Lol I'm pretty sure I might have been guilty of the sail-ship hull stuck on a balloon somewhere...(I need to go check now lol) - ok I haven't seen any but I'm still pretty sure I have done it!

Yeah, yeah, I can see where you're coming from, like how in comics they'll have the silhouette in the foreground with people in the background. I might have a few scenes planned like that...I'll have to check...

Yeah, he's one of the main characters (even though he's a bad guy!), so I thought it would be best if the readers get to know a little more about him and his motivations towards the start of the story.
