EDIT - July 2017: Okay. So I've been wanting to redraw the Chapter One cover page for a while now. Whenever I would go to update the pages in the "Maelstrom" folder here or on the comic's website, one of the first things I would see is that old Chapter One cover. And the more I saw it, the more I got to thinking that it was too "meh." It didn't convey the feel of the chapter that I wanted it to, and it didn't feel like a good intro pic to the character. V.2 here shows that I feel more comfortable with drawing Trenton (and I've got a better grasp on his personality), and it's a better introduction to the overall tone of the story. I also recycled stuff from Chapter Three for background images--stuff I didn't have when I was working on the original Chapter One cover! The original version hasn't disappeared altogether, though! I'm archiving it in my Scraps for posterity's sake.
Next: Page 1 And away we go! I am so very excited for this comic; it's gone through many incarnations and ups and downs since this time last year before finally landing where it is now. I hope you guys will enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed writing and drawing it!
I finally figured out how to edit the logo after scrounging through my Illustrator class notes!

So I read your comic whilst on holiday and I bloomin' loved it!!!
I'll write my reviews on the title pages of each chapter
Chapter 1:
I am thoroughly intrigued by the letter at the beginning and am wondering if Elsie is the mysterious brunette you commissioned me to draw.
Right from the moment I started reading this, I loved the pace of the story, it unfolds like a film in front of your eyes, you can almost 'hear' the soundtrack (if that makes sense?) I loved Trenton the moment I met him, he's a handsome, dashing rascal and reminds me a bit of Indiana Jones!
There were several moments that made me laugh aloud- including leaving the cook behind in an impressively smoking city and the flashback about 'strictly no smoking' policy- that explosion piece cracked me up! I love Trenton's charismatic take on a series of unfortunate events!
(I've just read the part where he's read the letter and brought out the picture so I think my suspicions are correct!
I also liked the way you ended the chapter with Cornelia reading on top of the cliffs, hinting at her role in the story and also I appreciated the cool colour contrasts between that picture and the sunny, coppery hues of the previous pages, which are in more classically 'Steampunk' tones. I can't wait to read more- this really took me by surprise!

Huhuhu, all I'm going to say in regards to Elsie is that you followed the bread crumbs...
Indy was definitely a major influence on Trenton's character and the comic as a whole. I wanted to make it a fun adventure as opposed to the long epic I originally had in mind (I'm thinking 'Raiders' is probably going to be my next tribute/parody piece like 'The Mummy' one 
That won't be the last that you see of Grimbsy! He'll get his payback somehow... 
I hope to delve more into the stories of the rest of the crew within the following Volumes--Volume 1 is kind of like the 'set up' part of the movie where you get to meet the key players as they collide into each others' lives (though our third main character won't be getting his own chapter until Vol. 2...I'm still working out his character 
The final page for each chapter are pretty important storywise! There's going to be a lot of consequences within the last pages of Chapters 3 & 4, that's for sure!
