Description
Happy Mother’s Day! I had a poll on IG and this was the concept that won out: Elsie and Lil Hester! I didn’t want the picture to be too busy (since I’m using it for the Mother’s Day card my sister and I are giving our own mom), which is why I went the simplistic route for the background. Hope you all treat your mothers well today!!Elsie and Hester©Capella336

I really like the colors on this one. It's a much softer, more ethereal feel - like a memory!

Thank you! I've missed dabbling in these softer color schemes.

Now this is interesting! I wonder if Elsie was a good mother- do we ever find out? I love how sweet little Hester looks, she's so cute with those big eyes of hers! I love the soft, pastel tones here and the contrast between pink and blue both in the foreground and background

She wasn't a terrible mother, just not the best... I might include some flashbacks in the comic, but I'm leaning more towards implied tidbits from Hester's POV via conversations.
Thank you! I like how those two colors look, and I have been using a lot of them, just brighter with the AUs, so I thought I'd bring them in here.

Bawwww ;_; I love this! Such gentle, sweet expressions. Hester actually behaving herself in a pic too! ;A; I love it. ;; THe colors, the pose, even the simplistic background work perfectly. It very much has a warm, motherly feel. I love it!

Thank you so much! Hester can be a good little lady when the time calls for it i.e. when she wants to. lol
And yay! That's exactly what I was going for! ^__^

If this was the 80s AU he'd follow her while he's supposed to be on duty and say he's "staking out" someone (though I guess it would be SORT OF true lol).

This is so cute, Hester was a sweet little munchkin (she reminds me of something from Lady Lovely Locks with all that hair), such a wonderful gift for mummy dearest, and it's nice that Elsie is so delighted too. Plus I think the simplicity of the scene and that added dynamic window plant make this quite a lovely piece to look at

Thank you! Haha! Oh gosh, the eighties and their love of big hair in everything! I think I missed that by a decade as a child and jumped right onto the Lisa Frank neon bandwagon. xD
Back in the days when the two used to get along--once the tween years hit the gifts changed drastically from something cute to wild pet "gifts." "I got you a squirrel, Mama!"
I love the windowpane effect used in old cartoons and comics and couldn't resist throwing it in here.

I used to love that cartoon, but watching it now makes me cringe as it's soooo girly and...god i don't even know lol - the characters are so flippy floppy. I also feel irate that the bad character is dark haired while all the good ones are light (even the brown haired one, who is blah), but I used to love Lady Lovely Locks' horse SilkyMane...even if she is pink. (she aint got nothing on Swift Wind though, She-Ra's horse)
Oh my gosh, Lisa Frank! - my sister had the one with the seal - they're amazing *nostalgia-gasm*. Did you have a sticker album like every 90s child?
well I guess it was enjoyable while it lasted (and then came the rabid squirrels in boxes, and beating up bullies) - all good things must come to an end (or evolve into something better!)

Lol! I think I might have subconsciously railed against the "dark-haired bad guy" trope with a lot of my stories because most of my villains are actually blond, though there's a few exceptions. We mainly just watched a lot of 60s shows that our parents grew up on like The Flintstones and Scooby Doo since we weren't allowed to watch most of the stuff on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Lots of Hanna-Barbera!!
Actually yes!! I'm pretty sure I had one with the golden retriever puppies on it because I was crazy obsessed with dogs as a child. XD We also got the storybook sticker albums like these so we could mix up the characters from different franchises in them.
Her Ultimate Form will be awesome to behold!!

Hmm I'm trying to think of all my bad guys and the first one I made, Lord Tilon was a blonde noble fallen from grace, slumming it in an abandoned fortress...
It just struck me that not many serious villains are ginger...
Oh we used to watch those too (I preferred the Flintstones to the Jetsons) and absolutely hated Top Cat and Yogi Bear ugh. But Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network were amazing back then, not like now where everything is live action teenager shows or really noisy cartoons with little substance. I loved Hey Arnold and Angry Beavers (I wanted to live in their lodge). I also liked when Cartoon Network used to play 'what a cartoon', which were short animations, perhaps even pilots for potential shows, but they were great to see.
Lol I kind of have a vague recollection of my other sister having the Dalmatian one for the same reason, but it could be a false memory as that image is really well know so perhaps that's why it's familiar.
Oh!!! I never had one of those! I had just a plain old sticker book you could fill with random collections to show off or swap (most were glittery animals or the rejects my elder sister didn't want, like the stinky scratch 'n sniffs which all started to smell the same after a while)
Now to just wait for her to cocoon herself and emerge in all her mind blowing glory (with greater powers)

All my original bad guys were animals so I can't really apply that, though I did recycle most of them and turned them into people for a lot of my current projects...
That needs to be remedied! Amos can't be the only lowkey antagonist! lol
Same here! I still watch the Flintstones when I can find it on TV! Oh, that was like me with Tom and Jerry--I sympathized more with the cat so I got really frustrated with Jerry always winning. I've gone back and watched the cartoons I missed out on (the good ones at least!), and I can see how I wouldn't have been into some when I was younger--I started watching Samurai Jack last year and recommended it to my sister and she was so confused why there was so little dialogue in the pilot. xD We did watch the 2000s Justice League/JLU shows as a family and after watching it as an adult, I'm realizing that there was a lot of dark/adult stuff in that show. O:
We lived in Central America for a year so I think they might have only had them there, I don't know for sure (since all the ones we got were in Spanish)! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I used to get so excited over those scratch and sniff stickers! We had the Crayola markers that had different smells, and even though the black one ran out of ink really fast, my sister and I still kept it because it smelled like marshmallows. lol

Well Amos may have started off lowkey, but even super villains start somewhere - give him another twenty years and we'll see where he's at in his career.
I used to like seeing what animals and dinos were used around the house, like the mini mammoth vacuum cleaners (also their cars are kind of good ideas lol, but also quite awful). I'm not a fan of Tom and Jerry as it's a bit too violent, but every kid has probably watched it and remembers episodes (the Zoot Suit is a classic) but I did also feel bad for Tom and find Jerry to be an asshole, though there were the odd rare episodes where they seemed to be friends - almost. Classic Nickelodeon and classic Cartoon Network are timeless. I loved the original Samurai Jack, however, the last season to complete the story, was a huge disappointment I wish they'd never made. I would much rather have left him stuck in the future and gone on happy with my life, without that abomination ruining the series with its complete detachment from the original feel.
I vaguely remember watching Justice League but honestly remember nothing much about it, though I think the same animators worked on that Batman Beyond (a completely redesigned Batman) which I quite liked watching, I think they then went on to work on Teen Titans which was fine before it spiralled on and on and on to the awfulness it is today (to be clear, I don't watch it, I just saw the new updated look when my nephew was watching it, and wanted to scream at what they'd done to it)
Maybe i'm old, but I am finding that cartoons these days are very obnoxious and ugly in terms of how they look (and the content), and not even in a dark or adult way that they may have been before.
Wow that's interesting! Did you learn any Spanish from them?
Lol, we never actually had the original Crayola, we had cheap knock offs which tended to all smell the same after a while (though I do remember that a lot of cereal boxes in the 90s would give out a Crayola marker (either scented, or one of those shape stamper ones). I always liked the cola scented pen...or grape. Do you remember the magic marker which changed colour if you went over it with the 'special' white marker? Or that neon pink jelly sheet thing which you drew on with a white stylus then lifted up to erase the entire image?

...Prison or accounting, depending on if he cleans up his act or not!
Now that I know more about 60s history, I appreciate the guest stars and jokes about everyday life from that time in the show. My dad had this really old car from the 80s that we called the Flintstonemobile because he'd joke that we'd have to slam our feet down to get it going (it stalled at a lot of stoplights and the AC and heating stopped working by the time he got a new car).
Oh yeah, the Batman TAS series launched DC's Animated Universe, so Batman Beyond, Superman TAS, and all the other ones with that Bruce Timm style are connected. I liked Justice League Unlimited a lot better than the first series since the story arcs seemed tighter/were more interesting and less "kiddie," if you know what I mean. I never really got into Teen Titans as a kid because I hadn't been exposed to anime so the anime bits weirded me out. I'd recommend Young Justice (it came out around 2010 and got cancelled after its second season), which also deals with the teen heroes/sidekicks but has a more mature feel (also the voice actor for Cyborg voices Aqualad!).
I try to find cartoons with good stories and character development i.e., the ones that inevitably get cancelled because no one buys the toys or the networks think the viewership isn't worth them renewing the show for another season.
I didn't learn a whole lot, but I was able to get the accent down for rolling my R's! lol My sister was younger so she was able to retain more, which is why she can speak Spanish a little bit more fluently than I can (also she went to Ecuador for a semester a few years ago so she had more exposure).
Oh yeah!! I remember the magic markers! My sister and I got some for Christmas one year and used them up really fast because we thought they were the coolest thing in the world. XD We had those magnetic boards too, the ones with the stylus that you drew on and could "erase" the picture later, except we pressed down too hard and made a lot of dark lines in the thing. lol
