When Hester joins the crew, Cornelia is grateful to have another female onboard to talk with and complain about the Captain’s faults. lol Hester and her Papa get into a few squabbles which results in Cornelia acting as a stand-in mother for the girl too. I haven't really tapped that much into their relationship, but in a nutshell: Hester despises Cornelia at first for taking up her Papa's attention (because Trenton is realizing he likes Cornelia and spends a lot of time flirting with her), but becomes friends when she gets into fights with Trenton and needs someone to talk to. Cornelia also sticks up for Hester when Trenton doesn't give her the needed attention and lets her come to her cabin to hang if she needs a break from the crew. Basically Cornelia is the mom Hester wish she had.
