Description
One more bunch of redesign/concept sketches, this time for a remake of a Chinese story, The Legend of the White Snake .I... also... didn't really end up doing much with this one either lmao, oops sorry;;;
But the basic gist of the story is Bai, the white snake lady who falls in love with a human man (lame scholarly guy), but gets captured by self-righteous asshole monk dude, and needs to be saved by her badass lil sister snake, Qing, whom I do dearly love hahaha. I thought a cool animal/shapeshifting fight would be really fun between Qing and the monk dude, so, hey, maybe someday I'll get around to boarding this or something... u_u;;;
Anyway, long story short, I am not a character designer roflmao but enjoy these sketches anyway~

I love legend of the White Serpent! I believe the Toei animation version of 白蛇傳 was the first Japanese animation I ever saw. It was dubbed as, "Panda and the Magic Serpent" and a New York TV channel played it every Easter Sunday. Many years later, I stumbled across a DVD for $1 at a drug store. I thought that was appropriate because Bai's husband was an apothecary. I edited clips from that film (and some other old stuff like "Momotaro Holy Warrior of the Sea") and showed them at conventions in a an A/V panel called "Ancient anime". It was great seeing so many teenagers enjoying a panel for the oldest anime out there.

Wee, I forgot to ask those red white black elegant crane sketches with the previous sketchdump, I'm glad to know what it was! I saw a Chinese movie once, it was interesting for sure (though I was annoyed with some parts in it). I hope you get around do more about it

Well that's kind of how I am with most movies I watch or most books i read. there are sooo few that fully satisfies me. XD
Anyway, I looked up the original story on wiwki. The rendition I saw was a '93 movie called Green Snake: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBjyca…
But i see there is a 2011 version now too. I should put it on my list too.

I love Qing's design, especially her clothes at the left, the white dots look really nice, while the red lines at the right look a bit too sporty to me, and seem less closer to the chinese universe (it might be common, I don't know much about this culture, but that's what I feel when I see it)

It's inspired by a really awesome shapeshifter battle that takes place in the Chinese mythology of Havoc in Heaven/Journey to the West, I think it'd be a ton of fun to draw~ X)

I might make a storyboarding project of it, I need to do a new set of boards, so I'm thinking of what I can do...
