Description

Art along with some of the design ideas (not to mention the person being responsible for coming up with the shoulder heads in the first place) by the magnificent :icondleatrollus:. Do go give the Troll your love, though I do not think the troll is that active in DA.

So, finally (and for the relief of those who have drawn Taegan in the past), we have a proper ref for the old Unholy Deity himself. Seems only fitting that it was also made by Flea who conjured up Taegan originally way back when, when I gave Flea only the simplest and briefest of description. The original debut of Taegan can be seen here: lamaohi.deviantart.com/art/Ava…

Now then. Some written descriptions relating to this and that seen in the ref. Actual back-story, history and what not omitted seeing as I plan to write more in-depth about his history at some point.

Taegan - The Unholy Deity

Humanoid form (without wings) seen to the right: Heads upon his shoulders are alive and part of him. Along with the winged form, makes it easy for him to shift back and forth between humanoid form and the form of a three-headed dragon.

Each head, along with the colour of their horns and scales, represents one of the three mindsets and personalities of Taegan.

Red: Destruction. Blue: Domination. Green: A mixture of these two.

Colours shift and change depending on his mood and what Taegan is planning. Thusly the heads can remain in the same alignment for many hours or days, or they can change colour in seconds. For example, as seen here, the green head can be on the right shoulder, followed by red scales and horns on the primary head, followed by a blue head on his left shoulder.

Alternatively, the primary head can be green, followed by blue head on right shoulder or left shoulder. Or, a blue primary head with green head on left shoulder and red on the right shoulder. So on and so forth.

Scales on his arms, legs and tail sometimes also reflect the colour of his heads. The primary head in the middle is the definitive way to tell how he is feeling or what he is planning.

There are also many other aspects and personalities associated with the colours. Green is not only neutral, but it can also be when he decides to let loose and embrace madness. Red can be fierce or determined without anything suddenly bursting on fire. Blue can be calm but also reserved, thoughtful, or when he is feeling generous and kind.

Most commonly used form in his own domain and sometimes outside it, depending on the situation.

Does wear clothes, depending on the situation. Amidst his own priests and priestesses, has no need for such things unless dealing with fresh initiates. At such times, can conjure up clothing to hide those parts mortals might consider distracting, to say the least.

Humanoid form with wings (seen to the left): Identical to wingless form, with the exception of a ridge of elongated spines/horns jutting from his neck and back. Two sets of wings with one smaller set to help with precise turns. Rarely seen, most often used when flying around his home realm of Netherworld or surveying the world above during the darker nights.

Top left of the reference sheet shows how this form looks like with wings spread.

This form is also sometimes mixed in with that of his dark minion avatar, in which case the tail is slightly different, not to mention the features of his face. Dragon heads upon his shoulders are also missing when combined with his minion self.

Crown of Horns form between winged and wingless form: Originally thought out by :ramulicon: as an alternative for the dragon shoulder pads. Loved the idea and Flea took it up a few notches.

Most commonly used when dealing with other deities and divine entities, such as the other primary god of his world, Mother Goddess. Sometimes used as well when welcoming mortals to his realm and when appearing in the dreams of those he has taken an interest in.

The amount of eyes varies, but generally speaking it is between six and eight, with the humanoid eyes including. At times, the face might be missing entirely, replaced with a draconic snout or a swirling vortex where the events of the world and nearby cosmos play out. But the horns, and the floating eye, are always present in this form.

As seen in his hair, the true draconic nature of Taegan is also revealed while in this form with what one thought were hairs turning in to scales the further down they reach.

As is with his other humanoid forms, the colour of his horns and scales varies, based on the mood he is on. However, unlike the other two humanoid forms described here, the eyes on his crown of horns also change colour each time they blink. Each eye also blinks on its own, and synchronised blinking is rare and only happens when Taegan so desires. The effect of this constant shift in colours, not to mention the strength of the colours themselves, can be described as mesmerizing.

The floating eye in the middle can sometimes be seen covered in flames, frost and a rain of snow, a cloud of green gas or covered by swirling evil energy.

In rare cases, it is possible to see Taegan combining this form to that of his winged form. In such a case, the membranes and scales of his wings also shift in colour constantly.

Symbols: The two symbols seen here are what one can see in paintings drawn to the walls of the darkest caves, deepest chasms, or in torn and tattered banners. More often they are seen in Taegan's own domain, in intact banners and tapestries, pillars of dark stone, and in different locations inside his temple, not to mention in the middle of the doors leading to his temple. Doors that never remain in the same place for long periods of time and that change location with the stairs and landing that lead to the doors.

Commonly drawn and used by his own dark minions, more detailed versions drawn and used by his priestesses, priests and others who worship him.

Other symbols often associated with Taegan include a black flaming hand, a black flame or a black pyre, six eyes in a circle and many others.

Other forms:

A six eyed, six armed entity composed of unholy energies, resembling a sentient storm cloud of sorts with unholy energy coursing through both inside it and outside it in the form of lightning.

A form resembling that of his own creations, the dark minions. Exception being a dark flame which burns between his horns and a different kind of tail.

Normal Dark minion seen here: ramul.deviantart.com/art/Downw…

A Three-headed dragon with a red, green and blue head. All heads once again represent different personality and aspect of Taegan, but also have different kinds of breath related and magical abilities. Red can spew fire, magma, plasma, conjure up flaming and exploding projectiles, so on and so forth. Green can breathe noxious gasses, control and twist plant life to suit its needs, spit out acid and so on. Blue can control different forms of water (ice, snow, sleet, so on and so forth) but is also able to control minds and turn friends and family against one another.
Breath related abilities and magic can also be combined while in this form. Fire combined with gas creates an exploding combination, fire and water create scalding steam, water and acid can create a literal cloud of acid rain. So on and so forth.

All the limbs, all the horns! Add more, take some off, it matters not when you are a god!
Yeah Flea decided to include the symbols / insignias there seeing as how others Flea has drawn refsheets and characters for also have a symbol, and because in Taegan's case there are minions involved and so on. But yes, I immensely like it as well.

...He'd be perfect on Sesame street to teach kids to count
Insignias are gooood cause they can be insidiously hidden in places of importance or even stamped on coins when the reign goes well

"One horn, ah-ah-aa! Two horns! ah-ah-ah! Fifteen horns! Ah-ah-haa! One thousand minions heading to pillage your town, hahaa!"
Exactly! Bit of a videogame logic involved with them as well Like the more you see them, the more you know you are nearing something important and, potentially, fatal.
