Description Ink drawing based on one of my all-time favorite celebrities...the late Jackie Gleason. When I was a kid I thought those Honeymooner's re-runs were genius! I loved watching them with my Dad. I would give anything to watch on of them with him right now.

Gleason was also brilliant in the The Hustler.

This didn't come out quite right. Not that I am normally close. I think its a good drawing but something is missing.

Comments welcome. I am striving to improve.

my two favorite quotes:

and "Now address the ball..HELLO BALL!"
heeh my dad used to quote it all the time before I even knew what it was!

That's excellent. Most of the sitcoms of the last 20 years were just ripoffs of the sitcoms from the 50s and 60s. Same basic storylines. The Honeymooners rock.

Totally!! I know.... its like... a fat guy, with a skinny, pretty wife who'd never go for him in real life, and he's a drunk asshole who says stupid things that aren't funny and then the kids are all "YAYYYY" and get no attention. hehe
Yess....and what my family has always found silly about it is that Alice is constantly saying show she cleans and scrubs and spackles and vaccuums all day, when they live in a tiny 1 room apartment with no carpet! How is she doing so much work?! hehe

Did you ever see "Ozzie and Moe"? Jackie Gleason and Art Carney made a movie about busting soeakeasies in the Prohibition. Really funny.

Yeah Anthony Quinn. Who was also larger than life btw. I actualy got to meet him for a few minutes back in the eighties (im old). He had an art exhibit at this bank I used to work at....looked like Charles Bukowski or something, Big guy it seemed to me.

Yeah. . . I hear he had skills. . . i saw some of his stuff on a TCM interview.
I also heard he spoke several languages ( I'm so use to that callous brute in "La Strada". . . so that was a surprise)

He displayed mostly sculptures as I recall. Pretty cool stuff. I remember two things fom that evening. One, he was larger than life. Two, one of the bank secretaries almost died choking on some prime rib. Her boss gave her the heimlich and saved her life. Good times, good times.
