Description SHADOWFALL - FANTASY ART BOOK - www.larrywilsonart.com/shadowfall

Shadowfall: The Dark Embrace is a current work in progress project that will feature some new and existing personal art.

A dark fantasy art book based in the world of Avermore. Titanic forces battle for control of the heavens and hellish domains far below. Majestic Sentinels roam the skies whilst the dark forces of the Nephilym seek to end it all. The valorous Astalians and the subversive Fallen wage their own wars, whilst the Northern Clans and The Wild Ones endeavor to follow a peaceful life amidst the enveloping chaos.

The book will feature 128 pages of illustrations and accompanying text. It is divided into a number of chapters that explain the backstory and also focus on the cultures of the various factions.
I will also be including some poems and short stories to expand the world and help bring the characters to life.

Ty for the feedback Grew up on Hellraiser. Loved the Cenobite designs. Pure terror. Loved the fact that soething I was watching on a box could instill that much fear and confusion into my little head

I see it clearly now! Ribs aren't supposed to be attached to your feet! We can get that cleared up with a hefty dose of antibiotics and acid. Twice a day, if you please.

Altogether bound by mesh,
Nowhere are its legs to see;
Rot away through treachery

hehe ty for the feedback Part of the design of these creatures is the lack of essential features like eyes/nose. I wanted to use only one feature and see if I could still convey a strong mood.

Deegus25 In reply to LarryWilson [2012-09-10 17:51:28 +0000 UTC]

You nailed it. Gave me a similar creepy feeling like the "Hush" episode from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" back in the 90's.

Wonderful work - I love how it's organic but looks armored. Very creative. What brushes do you prefer to use in Painter? I just bought it and can't seem to find ones that work best for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LarryWilson In reply to SarahPerryman [2012-07-23 17:35:38 +0000 UTC]

Ty Sarah. The idea was that these beings were constructed with similar internal organs to humans, but that the bone structure was more external, almost insectoid, providing more defense capabilities.

I must admit that I am still very new to painter myself. I barely use any of its real functionality. I took me quite awhile to find some brushes that I was comfy using on a regular basis. There are loads of fancy brushes but I prefer to keep things simple for the most part of my work.
For lines and tight detail work I use the Scratchboard Tool with pressure for pen size.
I also use that tool for adding in large areas of flat color.
For blocking in colors is Soft Oil Pastel 10 with pressure for pen size - adjust max brush size with KB - this gives a smooth but somewhat blendable feel.
For a more textured feel i use the Oil Paste. - use it lightly for more texture.
I also use the Loaded Pallete Knife for texture/sketcing and effects.
For blending I use a soft pointed stump and Blender Bristle. Sometimes use Just Add Warter for washes.

Hope that helps
