Description Eye Coloring Tutorial by me | Other Eye Tutorials: 1 2 3 | My Resource list for Faces and Heads

For that Picasso one, I zoomed in 300% and drew each feature without looking at any of the rest of the face. The results were amusing. Anyway, don't know if any of this is helpful. I always start trying to make a tutorial for something specific but then wind up with a ton of random tips. This isn't everything you need to know about eyes from 3/4 view, it will work best alongside other eye tutorials and reference.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Not a lot of people go into depth with eye tutorials when it comes to the 3/4 view. There are a lot of useful tips too! I've been struggling with drawing the eyes recently and I had so many questions on my head but you've answered them all! I really appreciate this tutorial! Thank you :')

How ironic! Β I have been working on this problem in an oil painting and decided to visit this site. Β This is the best advice I have found on working on the problem of eyes in profile. Β You are a blessing and very talented with a super personality and gift to relate and teach. Β Thank you for being a generous soul! Β

hey, "sid from ice age" and "too close together" are real variations... i am kinda "sid from ice age" eyes, and here is one "too close together" example:Β www.centralmodels.pt/newslette… (it's Rita Pereira, a portuguese top model)
appart from this, very nice tutorial!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LauraHollingsworth In reply to marionbrook [2014-07-16 14:59:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm not addressing all types of face with those examples, more so just the sketch that I'm showing, so people can see what happens to a face when eyes are changed slightly.

With the too close together example, her eye is running into her nose, which is a problem Rita doesn't have. Rita's eyes are close, but not too close, because the structure of her face still works. Dreamworks uses characters with far apart eyes all the time with Sid, Eep, Moses, ect. and people use size difference in eyes as part of their style or to exaggerate perspective. The thing with those is that it's intentional. They're using eye placement as a part of their style or it's just part of the person's features. However when eyes are accidentally drawn out of place, it messes with the face's structure, and that's what I tried to show with the sketches.

^I had thought about putting some disclaimer like that in the tutorial, but it was already getting pretty long, anyway, thanks for your input!

Now I have the biggest urge to practice this considering 3/4 is one of my biggest weaknesses because of the 'squished' eye.

sid from ice age

LauraHollingsworth In reply to Faithwoe [2014-07-05 18:15:14 +0000 UTC]

That is what I think of every time, "This face looks odd, and it reminds me of Sid, therefor, their eyes must be too far apart!"
