Description
Assignment based on a hypothetical article about robot robin toys on sale in Japan. It's supposed to be for a bird watcher's magazine, so I emphasized the natural features of the Japanese robin, instead of designing a product as it would actually look. Watercolor, colored pencil and gouache. You may not use this artwork in any form unless you have my permission. If you wish to use it as a tattoo, I must be paid a creative fee. Prints can now be purchased of this image from my Etsy page!

The details and the colors are amazing! I the little birdie
This painting also reminds me of a story about an emperor and his friend the Nightingale. There's a part when they replace the real Nightingale with a clockwork one but it breaks and the emperor gets sick. Then the Nightingale comes back and sings to make him feel better.

what a fucking faggot bird. I mean, look at it, that's not the correct way of bird's anatomy, jesus christ... Looks more like a fetus ripped out of a pig's ass.
Jk.. It's cute :3 you're good

The concept is wonderful. I especially like the way you drew its head and its eyes.
The background and the cherry-blossoms really match with the Japanese culture. I also like the fact that you didn't give all the details on the background so that the people can focus on the bird.
Congratulations

Resembles me strongly an Andersen's fairytale entitled "Nightingale", a story of the mikado (emperor) and his two birds - a real nightingale and an artificial one. Perhaps this is the reason of the japanese scent, although there are another species of singing birds.
Beautiful artwork, congratulations!

clockwork gears now clicking and mainspring tightly coiled, the chirping has begun again... feathers shift as wings are tested, the gyro seems to be working... on the branch the toes have grasped... the view is so magnificant here...and in a moment she'll alight on the ground and have a virtual breakfast, or a clockwork seed and then return...

Someone told it before, but, when I saw it, the first I thought was that it remainds me a lot the Murakami's book "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle"

Wow... I absolutely love this! Colors, concept & all... reminds me a bit of an electronic-jewlery-box type song by Imogen Heap called "little bird". One of my favorites.

The huge eyes of the robin!! Priceless!
This is really well done! Like how realistically you coloured the feathers. And the layout and japanese touch you gave the piece makes it convenient for the articleΒ΄s illustration.

Your welcome! I always try to give useful feedback which shows that I really looked at the artwork, not just one-worders. (even if regularly the first thing that comes to my mind is simply: beautiful. ) Glad it was helpful.
