Description
It's been a while since my last pony drawing, and this one's been on the works for quite some time. I got the idea a long time ago, but I haven't had much inspiration to draw, and that also shows in the quality of this pic. I think it could've been a lot better.Anyways, it's the newest addition to the alternate "Arcane" timeline, that I set some of my drawings on. The last one had a bit of lore included, and I'll include some in this one too. The next ones won't be as long as this, and the earlier picture called "Elder", but I'll try to write something just for the fun of it.
Like always, I drew this one with water soluble color pencils, and finished with white gel pen, and some basic photoshop tuning.
Here's the lore bit for those interested, there's a lot of text, and no tl;dr, but there's no real reason for you to read it if you don't want to.
Please excuse the spelling errors and such I have most likely made, english isn't my first language.

The thick shadows and brances of the Everfree forest finally moved aside, revealing an odd crystal, which was being held up in the air by twisting trees. In it's shadow, stood a peculiar earth pony with light green coat, and piercing orange eyes. "Seed!? What on Equestria are you doing here in the heart of the Everfree!?" exclaimed Twilight.
The green pony turned around, and stepped out of the shadow of the heart, and eyed the party that had come before her. "I am here to recieve the blessing of the Everfree, just like the Guardian did a long time ago." she replied.
Twilight was obviously agitated by the precense of the mysterious pony, and was struggling to keep her calm."What makes you think you'd even be able recieve its blessing?" she snapped, and took a step towards Seed. "You claim to represent nature, yet your ascension destroyed more land and lives than any catastrophe that came before!"
"It does not matter." Seed replied calmly. "That land had already been touched by your vile magics, and was beyond saving. But with that sacrifice, I will be able to renew everything. To create a new world, in which the ponykind has to live in harmony with the nature, instead of enslaving it."
Twilight hated the way Seed acted. Her calm demeanor felt more threatening than outright aggression. "But why Everfree? If you wanted to renew everything, why leave the most dangerous forest untouched?"
"Because the Everfree is the strongest forest in all of Equestria. It's innate magics are strong enough to foil any attempts that the pegasi had for controlling it. It has been free even before my time, and the Guardian ensures it always would have stayed that way, even without my intervention" Seed took a step towards the party that had come before her, and kept explaining. "But the rest of the world can never be like the Everfree, so something has to be done about it. And that all starts here in the heart. When the time is right, the Everfree will spread throughout the New World like a green tidal wave. Everything will finally be free of the magics of the ponykind. Especially that of the Pegasi."
Seed focused her eyes on Fluttershy, who remained surprisingly calm. "I still must visit the other natural sanctuaries of Equestria, in order to recieve their blessings, like with the Everfree. If you wish to accompany me, Guardian of the Everfree, then you are free to do so. It is a way for your spirit to grow even stronger, and I would dare to say that it is something you must do. You have to become strong in order to protect the New World."
At that moment, Twilight interrupted Seed by stomping her hoof on the ground. "What on Equestria are you talking about now Seed!?" she exclaimed. "Fluttershy would never join you! She couldn't! Besides, she's a pegasus! Didn't you just say you despise her kind!?"
Seed's calm demeanor wasn't shaken by Twilight's aggression. "I could never despise the Guardian of the Everfree. Your actions define who you are, not your wings or horn. Isn't that something you should have learned a long time ago, Twilight Sparkle."
For the first time, Fluttershy spoke up. "Umm... I'm truly sorry Twilight, but I have already made a pact with the Everfree. There are things you just don't know about yet..." she said, and put her head down, seemingly ashamed of herself.
"Fluttershy! Don't you see that she's just using you!" Twilight shouted. She couldn't believe what her old friend had just said.
"You are truly despicable Twilight Sparkle." said Seed. "There is more to this world than just you and your petty ambitions regarding magic. You are very important to the Guardian, yes. But do not place yourself above that which is ultimately best for all of Equestria."

Even if this isn't your best work, it still wows me and many others.
I'm sorry to hear that you've hit an inspirational slump, but at least you kept going.
I take it from some of the comments that paper texture showing through a colored piece is a fault. I can see where they're going with this, but it doesn't bother me as much. I've tried to color so the texture doesn't show and I've ended up with a pastel-like coloration, which I didn't like at all.
I'm envious of your water-soluble pencils. Did you draw this on Bristol paper or another kind?

Thanks.
I not too sure about the different varieties of papers, but it seems to be a bit lighter than bristol.
It's just general drawing paper from Daler Rowney, being 160g/m2, and tough enough to handle some water. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with this particular brand of paper. I hate the texture, but it takes in a lot of color, which enables me to do these bright and powerful colors, especially when combined with water.
I have some papers that have a light texture, but they can't handle water.

Very nice, I love the details and use of color; however, I do think it would have turned out a bit better if you had used the same blending methods across the whole image.

Thanks.
Can you clarify a bit about using the same blending across the image though?
I know there are certain elements that I finish by blending them together with white/light color, in order to hide the paper texture, but I naturally can't do that on a larger scale. Did you mean that, or was it something else you noticed about this?

I'm not too familiar with the color pencils you're using. I know that when I use Prismacolors pencils, if I'm going to blend them I either use a similar color or a colorless blender. I guess that's what I'm suggesting for the dark of the trees.
The leaves, gems, and characters are all very well blended; but the dark of the trees, as you say, still have the paper texture.
The Prismacolors are wax based, so the colorless blender works nicely. I've never used water soluble pencils before, so I'm not sure how they blend.
I hope that makes sense. I think I may have rambled a bit there.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
Now that you mentioned the wax based pencils, it reminded me that I could've used my old Derwent Artists pencils for larger areas. They're far less expensive and way more expendable than Caran d'Ache, and should basically be able to do the same thing.
I just tend to forget that I have other pencils besides the set that I always use, hah.

Thank you.
Though I've never been a huge fan of the texture of the paper myself.

Yep, they do exists. I like using water soluble / watercolor pencils more than I like actual watercolors.

Thank you.
Though I think my lack of activity shows on the quality a bit. I need to draw more to get back on track.

You mean the quality that got it on EQD Drawfriend? Congrats, this is one of my favorites in that particular post today, and I don't usually go for the OC's, but you did an awesome job. The colors really flow together well. In fewer words, I really like her mane.

Thank you.
Well, most of my drawings have had the honor of being featrued on EqD. It's just that I feel that some of the more high caliber groups on dA won't necessarily accept my works right off the bat anymore, like back when the fandom was still young.
I just think think my older works have been a tad better. Or at least more popular.
The overall quality of the FiM fanworks has also gone up a notch.
