Description
Based on an older model space cargo hauler from 2093, the Lewis-class specializes in the transportation of liquid or gas fuels in it's massive tanks. Fuel tanks can be detached to allow for faster processing. With around 60 built, most seeing use in the Inner System, the Lewis was a common sight.
This would soon lead to tragedy...
When the VIC launched it's rebellion, several Lewis-class vessels were pressed into service. With fuel tanks removed, they were outfitted with small weapons and served as durable light cruisers.
One ship, the Texoco A-342, was loaded up with cheap fuels and sent into a kamikaze attack against the UES Earth Orbital Platforms. EOP-12 was rammed, causing a massive explosion and resulting debris cloud in Earth orbit.
This attack claimed almost 28,000 lives, and would be one of the single most deadly terrorist attacks in mankind's history. Stock prices of the Unionized Space Transport Company (USTC), the main seller of the Lewis-class, plummeted overnight, and nearly sank the company.
Most Lewis-class were either mothballed or sold off to Outer System contractors who were more than happy with the cheap and very useful ships.
