Decided to go back and try to make the AU thing sort of in order. This is more or less the beginning.Now you know why Zuko's hair is so long already in all the other pictures- it got cut off 3 weeks sooner.

Edit- since this is the beginning, maybe I should tell you what's going on, huh? So, quick version-
Zuko doesn't get away with Uncle after the Siege of the North. Instead, he is captured by the Watertribe. Chief Arnook feels that Zuko's interference makes him indirectly responsible for Yue's death. Sokka agrees. Aang isn't sure how he feels, but he doesn't think Zuko should be held accountable for Zhao's actions. Katara isn't really sure what she feels, either.
Aang convinces Chief Arnook to spare Zuko's life, so Arnook settles for a more symbolic punishment and makes arrangements for Zuko to be transferred to the Earth Kingdom.

I finally have a written component! From Part Two of "Second Nature:
Zuko realized Arnook’s intention a moment too late. He felt the blade slide across his skull, parting the thick tail from its roots. The impact was almost physical. He slumped back to his knees, shock frozen on his face.
Arnook held the severed lock, rubbing his fingers against the red silk. He paced a few steps and then paused, considering. “Listen, well, Prince of Fire. The punishment for your actions will not be death, but life. Live, and suffer the shame of your failure.”
