I was so glad to get a photo of at least one "War Bonnette", before they are gone!

ace picture.

do you not have fences?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LDLAWRENCE In reply to flight261 [2006-03-06 18:32:38 +0000 UTC]

Nope. A lot of areas don't. I'd say about 90% of rail areas in the US are fence free!

>.< over here, 90% do, and we are talking 7 feet steel fences with 4 inch gaps.

Too bad the War Bonnet wasn't up front. That's the way it always goes, the plain NS DASH 9 is leading much cooler units.

I too think the war bonnet ought to stayed on BNSF. The newer GN-like paint scheme wasn't bad, but now they had to go and change it. They went from the Holy Cross herald to something that looks like it belongs on the side of a sneaker.

I know it really is a shame. I was just glad to see one though. One guy stopped at the crossing and told me that there are a ton of ex-WC SD45's running around that line as well. I'll be hunting that line foa while now!
It's the BNSF "Swoosh"!

I like to see that BNSF left some of their units in Warbonnet or BN Green. Adds some nice variety to their fleet.

Nice photo too. The only thing that could make this photo better is if the NS unit was shooting fire out of its exhaust stack.

Transkohr [2005-10-04 03:29:02 +0000 UTC]

If i'm correct, the silver ones are actually supposed to be used in the southwest where it's hotter, and the silver paint won't fade as fast as the heritage colors.

but that's me

LDLAWRENCE In reply to Transkohr [2005-10-04 03:49:52 +0000 UTC]

You might be right. All I see around here are the heritage colors.
