Description
Godzilla - King of the monstersZBrush 4, Photoshp CS4, Vue 8 and photography.
the concept of Godzilla here is to create a fat, massive, chunky clumsy, nuclear monster (heisei inspired). I sticked to Godzilla being a dinosaur. If there ever is a species of a marine theropod, that would be his kind. I gave him a massive tail, just for him to swim better and faster and also to balance the heavy body.
The texture is inspired from the millennium G-Suit. I think that is the best skin texture for G. I like the millenium G suit, especially the texture and armor, but the heisei g-suits remain my fave. i really dont know why its my fave, maybe because, of his size and power and for having a very exprssive face, he can actually grin and you will think that he is really angry...
It took me more than 2 weeks to complete this piece, but it took me 1 year to conceptualize and sketch and decide on how he'd look like.
regards. hope you like it.

I think a lot of the negativity stems from a misconception that you're trying to "Fix" Godzilla. There are some designs posted around DA that have been "radical for the sake of radical" (I'm sure this doesn't JUST apply to Godzilla either), but I like how all your designs have a general cohesion and the idea of using Sumo-Wrestler as inspiration seems obvious in hindsight; it's a great idea. I don't get the impression that you're trying to fix something not broken.
The modeling is fantastic. But I'm personally opposed to the idea of making Godzilla look like a Theropod; Godzilla was, has, and always should be a sea monster. Something amphibious. "Up from the Depths, 30 Stories High" and all. But people just ignore that part and pay attention to the "being a dinosaur" part and make him a T-rex, despite everything about T-Rex screams "Terrestrial and nothing but".
On to some positives, I like the texture alot, particularly the heavy plating. It looks powerful and appropriate without looking like an exoskeleton or an Ankylosaurus. The tail is intense, I'd love to see someone make a traditional design with that wicked tail.

hey man. tahnks for this comment. i undestand that a lot of Gfans are use to the suit based designs.
its true that i am not fixing G. and weve noticed the radical and some subtle changes from the showa to the millenium in the G suit appearance, his nature and BG story, and character. actually wasnt refering to sumo wrestlers specifically but i was just setting an extreme exampl for The Great MM, but i was thinking of the likes of the bigger pro wrestlers like bam bam bigelow or vader, but its a similar principle for the physics.
the theropod design, is something i couldnt help, as i believe that G is a dinosaur so therefore basing on fossils should key factor in this design. being also a fan of stan winston creatures, is also almost like a automatic to be influenced by Jurassic Park dinos, as to me JP has changed the look of dinos in general after 1992.
Glad u liked the tail. have to really make it massive to balance.
appreciate your comments.

I think it be awesome if when he shot a lazer, his belly would deflate, then when he is ready to fire again he gets fat again. I think people would pay more attention to his big friken tale than his arms during a fight anyway. beside the tiny arms are awesome.

well damn u certainly put a lot of effort into this! and yes that godzilla did have a lot of expressions. my fav though was when he fought mecha godzilla the first time and was being electrocuted but godzilla sent the charges back at mecha. then came and knocked the machine down...remember the camera slowly zooms into godzillas face and he dons a rather ferocious snarling expression. i was like damn! he's pissed! lol i am liking this concept u did here very well.
to be honest i'd love to see a short fan film with this design. i bet it would received rather well.

Interesting design for Gojira's head & body but the whole body design kinda reminds me of the Carnotaurs-from dinosaur movie)
Now that's a massive tail it looks like from another Gojira concept that they were going to put into a movie but didn't in look.
Details good, textures nice,I also love the Gojira 2,000 suit one of my fave suit design & I do see a little bit of that in your design close to the head & going along the back. And this to me has the 90's feel to it don't know why.
good job interesting concept

the massive tail (and evrything else...) is inspired from heisei. also the facial expressions... the 90s has that grin that other G dont have... will be posting a close up of the face soon.
yes the millennium inspiration is applied along the back.
texture also inspired from my Leviathan sculpture...
a lot of inspiration too from the creatures from monster hunter.

I agree with the people that say the body is too bulky, it looks awkward especially when viewed from the front. The head looks small compared to the legs and the arms just dangle. Sure the Heisei design had that too, but I didn't really like that about that design either. BUT this design did get some things right, especially the head. You fucking nailed the head. That should be the face of the Legendary Pictures Godzilla! And the skin texture is pretty kickass. I like the jagged edges of the tail. Basically just slim this down a little bit, make the arms longer and able to grab things, and your design will be full of win.

scales and attack pics are good but the weight is ridiculous really...I see where you were going but id recommend redoing this, making it a bit less heavy. Other then that you have amazing cg skills and I couldn't come close to this 3d model without ALOT more practice but I strongly recommend you re-balance the weight and extend the arms just a little more. Of course its your design so its up to you but that's my honest opinion.

heavily inspired by the ridiculous heisei. i guess for me its still ridiculously monstrously bulky.
am open for slight modifications but thats under consideration.
will be posting another image of the same model with different angles soon.
