Description Godzilla - King of the monsters
ZBrush 4, Photoshp CS4, Vue 8 and photography.

the concept of Godzilla here is to create a fat, massive, chunky clumsy, nuclear monster (heisei inspired). I sticked to Godzilla being a dinosaur. If there ever is a species of a marine theropod, that would be his kind. I gave him a massive tail, just for him to swim better and faster and also to balance the heavy body.

The texture is inspired from the millennium G-Suit. I think that is the best skin texture for G. I like the millenium G suit, especially the texture and armor, but the heisei g-suits remain my fave. i really dont know why its my fave, maybe because, of his size and power and for having a very exprssive face, he can actually grin and you will think that he is really angry...

It took me more than 2 weeks to complete this piece, but it took me 1 year to conceptualize and sketch and decide on how he'd look like.

regards. hope you like it.

Interesting concept,It's not my favorite but I'll give you credit for trying something different.

I guess Gman's been enjoying retirement from the looks of it.

I haven't read a single word of the drama that this has inevitably stirred up, but I still feel the need to comment.

This thing you're doing here, reimagining classic monsters in a new light... I find it interesting. It's true, I dislike when people radically alter a classic design, or try to make it more realistic by making it less fantastic. Please understand, a lot of the people who are getting upset over this have a it of history with other artists who've tried to "improve" kaiju designs by turning them into dinosaurs(Not even anatomically correct ones) with minor bits tacked on. It's turned some people a little sour. >>
But I understand that's not what you're trying to do. You're just trying to see what kind of spins you can put on them as an artistic exercise. And I find that really interesting.

I'll say, I like the texture of this one. It feels very thickly armored, and very crocodilian. And while I definitely think you went a bit overboard with the bulk, I can appreciate the sense of mass. Many horizontal Godzillas don't feel truly gigantic at all, so this definitely manages to work around that.

when i watch the godzilla films, i enjoy them because their fun to watch and my imagination runs wild.
fun because they can get fantastically ridiculous and at the same time there is a translation thats happening in my mind.
knowing that godzilla is a dinosaur, i think its just fair to design a godzilla based on dinosaur anatomy fossils, but not necessarily entirely. now, the japanese have perfected the genre with the guys in rubber suit (eji tsuburaya and his followers). it just happens that i like all sorts of creatures an monsters, dead and alive, myth or extinct, from movies or comic and i am given a passion to create or re create, draw or sculpt creatures, and t also happens that i am a G fan as well, and this piece is my version of that classic. its not an improvisation and im glad you picked that up. the 'fantastic' elements can be applied to other factors other than anatomy. e.g. my godzilla with a ridiculous nuclear pulse and still live.
i even plan to add the cartoon bubbles of the monsters talking to each other (e.g. anguirus talking to gojira in gojira vs gigan).

The official Godzilla character and look has radically changed over the years, and wer'e all aware of that. so i think there is a lot of freedom in re designing as fan art.

the overboard part, thats the factor that i applied to make the monster more monstrous and beastly. but adjustments can be made.

thanks for dropping this comment. i appreciating it.

to be honest the arms are the only iffy bit, but then again if he's more of a long-range/Tail bashing/Charging and biting Goji' then its only natural the arms are going to shrink compared to the rest of the body.

Everyone is entitled to their own view about it all so you should just ignore others bitchin'

overall i say this guy is pretty dang epic!

yo got that right. its like that 90s arcade game (primal Rage?) of dinosaurs fighting and the theropods just use tail and jaws and a bit of kicking.

thanks for this comment.

I can see it now, that you mention it. I guess my imagination wasn't quite where it needed to be when looking at this guy the first time.

I imagine a ludroth's combat style being similar to this Godzilla.

Still, amazing work.

hey.
thanks for truly appreciating this piece.
i have to say some of them have little imagination, but your right, some of them are not open to new or slightly new concepts.
even the official godzilla concepts radically changed:
from a natural disaster threat - to hero-to antihero-to a supernatural being, from 50m tall to 80m to 100m then 55m then 60 then back to 100m, from being affected by electricity to being almost having no weaknesses...

each and all of us have our G standards and ideals and i dont understand why they seem so affected. its just fan art. i am just sharing my art and visions.

thanks again man. cheers.

Great! Your godzilla looks like some kind of theropod crocodile! Better than the "alien-like" version of Godzilla used in the latter US movies or the rubber disguise in japanese versions

I'm not sure, but I think Godzilla was an iguana before exposed to nuclear radiation... This style really looks like an biped iguana

It would be amazing seen this creature fistfight the Cloverfield moster

Also, at first blush I was gonna say that the legs looked unequal to the task of holding his weight but when I look at the front view of the monster and I see how think and powerful they are its seems pretty plausible, and with all his heavy, dense scales this looks like a monster that can actually survive attacks from the entire compliment of a nation's armed forces. To many kaiju just seem impervious despite their apparent thin skins (cough CLoverfiled cough). This design looks like it can take anything short of actical nuclear weaponry. This Godzilla would be a terrifying sight as it marched across a puny human city!

Obviously this design has spurred a serious love/hate reaction, but Im on the side of loving it enough that I would enjoy seeing this best on film.

I think this may be the most original take on Gojira that still looks like Gojira (unlike the American Godzilla design which lost something in translation as far as being Godzilla went). I love that you went with this uber bulky mess of a beast, he reminds me of a beached whale or elephant seal come ashore to wreak havock. I also dig the dino inspired design asthetic. If I have one complaint its so massive I dont think he could stand like a theropod with the tail hovering airborne behind him. Id say he's overbalanced towards the rear and would ironically end up dragging it like the traditional movie Gojira.

Im still working on my own design for Big G. It will likely take me a year to conceptualize as well before Im happy with a design that is both Godzilla and all my own.

as much as we love him, he is a true freak, and i made him look freaky beast and also a juggernaut.
because he is nuclear powered, he will be able to lift the tail and run. one idea here is when the tail is down, it will be an indicator that G's power is depleting and he will soon need a nap and or look for the nearest atomic burger store to have a munch.

will look forward to your G design.

Ah, thats a cool rational, I dig it! I didnt even consider how his nuclear powered physiology might work. Something to consider for my own design. I really do enjoy seeing you designs whether they fit my idea of certain kaiju or not, its clear a lot of time, thought and love went into them.

yeah, as uve noticed ive been hammered by some people here about G's size, and how he wont be able to fight.

i thought of these people and characters as part of my creative process for the G design:
Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow, The Big Boss man, Big Van Vader, E. Honda (SF), Juggernaut (marvel)
they're huge and are able to have a burst of energy and move fast. what more a fictional nuclear powered mutated dinosaur on steroids?
