Description
Godzilla - King of the monstersZBrush 4, Photoshp CS4, Vue 8 and photography.
the concept of Godzilla here is to create a fat, massive, chunky clumsy, nuclear monster (heisei inspired). I sticked to Godzilla being a dinosaur. If there ever is a species of a marine theropod, that would be his kind. I gave him a massive tail, just for him to swim better and faster and also to balance the heavy body.
The texture is inspired from the millennium G-Suit. I think that is the best skin texture for G. I like the millenium G suit, especially the texture and armor, but the heisei g-suits remain my fave. i really dont know why its my fave, maybe because, of his size and power and for having a very exprssive face, he can actually grin and you will think that he is really angry...
It took me more than 2 weeks to complete this piece, but it took me 1 year to conceptualize and sketch and decide on how he'd look like.
regards. hope you like it.

This is this dude's version of Godzilla not the one you guys know & love created by Japan. What would be the point if he just made the same version as
the original.

I think the artwork looks good. The desgin, not so much....
It's just way too fat and bulky to even move, no less fight other kaiju. Plus, the arms are too short and so are the legs.
I say, it's probably one of the worst takes on Godzilla I have seen.

Hmmm, I do admit, i was a bit harsh when I said "it was the worst takes on Godzilla I have seen".
I still don't care for it, don't get me wrong. But, I shouldn't slag it that bad. I mean, I know what you were trying for. It's just makes me see the Heisei Godzilla looking faster, and we know how much of a fat ass he is.
You are welcome for my appreciation.

its alright man. its just fan art but this piece, i consider my masterpiece. its a personal project and an expression of homage to the genre and of course to the Big G. like you i am a fan too. but everyone one has their own biases and ideal G design(s), although the original and official designs are forever great, and forever inspiring.
this fan art series, being a personal project, makes the designs quite personal, so i did kinda expect some people not to like it, i'm not really selling anything...
its been years since i wanted to do my own G design and its only now that it materialized, having available resources.

Wow, this piece is sure controversial. i haven't seen this much drama over something since Zilla was made (which still goes on) lol. its time for my opinion, i've been holding this in all day.
HOLY SHIT!!!! THIS PIECE IS AWESOME!!! i truly LOVE this piece! words cannot explain how awesome this piece is to me but i'll try to find ones that can.
1. I love how you modeled him after a T-rex. i love T-rexes and its only fit that the King of the Monsters is based off of the King of the Dinosaurs. besides his pose/posture looks really cool like that. it makes him look a lot more powerful even with the small arms. i think you delivered that Dinosaur look you were going for very very well.
2. I love how you made him bigger and massive. i wouldn't even call him fat, i would say he just has a lot more mass and muscle and weight to throw around. i mean he is literally the definition of a juggernaut now more so than Anguirus. he also has a truly MASSIVE and gigantic tail, and to think that i thought his tail was big and powerful already. that thing can level half a city. he certainly is not clumsy and is very HUGE and powerful. he is also 100 meters tall in that stance alone. if he were to stand upright i bet the would reach 150 meters or so.
3. I love how you combined the image of a T-rex with the heisei version of Goji. you can definitely see the resemblance especially in the frontal shot below. it all amalgamated to make one truly awesome design.
Personally, i truly truly love this piece. it very epic. you took a very radical and new approach to him and i digg it very much. you thought out of the box and made something really awesome. i think the 1 year and 2 weeks it took you to make this definitely was worth it. you did a truly phenomenal job. i really really love this piece. i didnt even bother to go into detail how awesomely you made the details and the colors you used or ow realistic it is lol.
But you know what i would LOVE to see. if you envisioned Goji as a awesome, badass, juggernaut, living powerhouse of a monster, i would simply LOVE to see how you would make his Super form. i wouldn't mind waiting another year and 2 weeks to see that

yeah, didnt really expect this kind of reaction.
thanks for your comments. im glad u get what i was illustrating. we might have similar Goji ideals. as u can see, people love it or hate it. each has their own ideals.
the superform(s) has already been perceived, but depends on how this fan art series will grow or develop.
anyway, i hope i will have time to carry on. i enjoy doing it, its fulfilling, but very time and energy consuming...
anyway. thanks again and live well..

Lol, really? what kind of reaction did you expect?
No problem dude, like i said over and over i really love this piece. its very awesome and innovative. its perhaps one of the most realistic Goji pieces ive seen. this piece literally looks like a file out of a government database. and i can see where you were going with this. like i said in my comment, its only fit that Kings be modeled after other Kings (besides T-rex rules!). This piece gets better and better every time i look at it.
You've certainly caused a ruckus among the kaiju community with this piece lol. i'm seeing debates and journals about this piece popping up everywhere. like i said before too, i haven't seen this much controversy and debate over something since Zilla was made. its like Deja Vu lol. I dont know why some people are so angered by this piece. if you hate the piece just dont comment. if you have minor dislikes then post them. dont go around hurting the morale of other artists, it just makes you look like an asshole and a fool. this design was just something radically new, like Zilla was back then. people just don't like it when you mess with their idols. me i do because you see how something can look in different scenarios. i love how Zilla came out and hes still my favorite kaiju. besides didn't Delgado make a design similar to this?
Really? so you have his Super form planned out already? awesome. personally i think you should go for it. i love this piece as it is. i can't imge how he would look in Super form. if people think hes "fat" already wait until then lol. he would simply be HUGE and MASSIVE to the uttermost degree. i wouldn't mind a year to see that
Oh, i bet it is. this is highly quality work and anything 3D must take 3x longer since you have 2 more dimensions to draw/add lol.
No problem dude

i did expect the negative reactions, didnt expect the seemingly emotional reactions, and the further journal discussions and arguments.
But you know we all have a choice of respect and disrespect, being kind and just being rude. its a free world, but it doesnt mean its ok to do whatever feels right for you, people can be selfish and there are consequences for that.
anyway, i saw delgados designs, isn't that one of which is semi quadrupedal? i also so stout's, and one that is called something like a cat...
yeah the super form, or a supercharged or maybe we can call him kaiser-gojira!!!!....
3d can take shorter or longer, but the advantage is after u finsh it, you can pose it how many times yuo want and do many compositions as you want.
i wil be posting another image, same model plus details and a bigger side view and more actions soon. hopefully within a week.

Yeah so was i. i never thought that something like this would happen. i thought that this was going to be a normal/average submission of a really awesome/epic Godzilla piece with the occasional minor dislike comments. turns out only 2/3rds of my prediction was right lol. it just goes to show you, it takes one radical person to cause a commotion then, like an avalanche, everything else follows.
Yeah we all do. people misuse that amendment. it just goes to show you what kind of people people really are. i mean was so hard to just not post a comment and just press the little X icon?
Yeah sorta, his design of him is really awesome too. never heard of the stout person though. perhaps i should Google his design.
Lol, but wouldn't "Kaiser-Gojira" be a double positive? i mean translated it would mean "King of the King of the Monsters" lol. i think the given "Super Gojira/Godzilla" is much better. you don't want to raise more ruckus now do you lol?
Hmmmm really? thats an interesting aspect. if only you could combined your 3D art style with animation. now that would be truly EPIC.
Awesome, i can't wait to see it. i wonder if it'll be a repeat performance lol

Sweet tap-dancin' King Ghidorah on stilts wearin' a tutu - HE IS BEAST!
To me, he seems a bit TOO pudgy. Maybe if the legs were a bit bigger/longer and/or the tail a little slimmer (especially in the hip area). And getting a bit nit-picky, maybe if the fins were slightly larger. But this is just personal preference talking, and even so, this thing is so damn awesome as it is.
Overall, it's great to see some 3-D fan art of Godzilla. I look at this thing, and I don't see a generic dinosaur with jagged fins, I see freakin' Godzilla. This design is starting to grow on me the more I look at it, and I believe it's one of the most realistic interpretations of Godzilla ever. I'm likin' the juggernaut-of-a-beast design for Godzilla. I guess you could liken the bulkiness to what a bipedal crocodile would look like.

thanks.
the previous versions of this had shorter legs.
with the fins, i did like the gigantic fins from the millenium series, but sometimes i feel like theyre gonna break at anytime from a strong attack. so did a thicker, but i am still debating wether its part of the spine or just thick boney scale structure.
im glad u saw the beast, juggernaut, freak, which is what i am really trying to portray.
cheers man.

Alright, I'm ready. The more I look at it, the more it reminds me of the V. Rex from Jackson's King Kong. Your love of crocodiles is apparent in the design, much like the Leviathan. The complaints about the arms seem to not take into consideration the fact that T. Rex has short, pretty much useless arms, yet it was still a powerhouse. You said before that you were going to take a break after the Big G. I wanted to know which kaiju you think you might be making a comeback with? Ghidorah maybe?
Also might I request for consideration: Orga and Rodan. (I think you also said there was another monster before Battra that was requested. Do you remember what it was?)

Yes I do like it. About Orga and Rodan, I think in one of your comments you mentioned them, so I just wanted to make sure. Personally, unless you really want to, I don't think you should bother with Battra. Because, if you redesigned him, I'd probably want to see your versions of Spacegodzilla and Desighidorah,(To complete the dark mirror trinity, lol).
I understand your hesitation with KG. Godzilla was tough enough, his arch-enemy is even more so.
Best Wishes to ya.

That'd be cool to have Orga and Rodan first. Rodan is one of my favorites, and the Xilliens need a back-up plan in case the Orga Soldiers get completely wiped out ; )
I think I'd prefer Mecha G too. Oh, and I meant Desighidorah (Death Ghidorah; more or less a black, four-legged Ghidorah that sounds like a pissed off elephant) from the first Rebirth of Mothra film. If you're not sure about Destroyah, I don't think you should do it. I'd like to see only the ones you're interested in redesigning.
Ghidorah sounds good, especially what you said about the difficulty in making a mountain fly.
Oh, and don't worry about the "killing me" thing. I can be a little overzealous : )

Oh goody : )
I guess I should have separated the "desi" and the "ghidorah".
I don't know about King Kong. I think if Peter Jackson's Kong was enlarged and given the electrical energy ability of Toho's Kong, that'd be good enough, but you may have something better in mind. Instead of just a gorilla, howabout a Sasquatch/Yeti like creature? I've read some peoples' opinions on the original 1933 Kong and they thought of him as a Sasquatch/Yeti type creature. Their biggest complaint about Jackson's version was that he was just a big gorilla. If you approached Toho's Kong like that, I'd be game.

hmmm maybe a gorilla / yeti, somewhere on the border but still recognizable.
i do like the just a gorilla concept, but i guess just making him gigantic is freakish enough to make him a true monster. but, i do have to think of somthing special. how about a king kong with a shoulder mounted plasma cannon?
kingukong vs G is something id like to revive, and give it a different scale of battle.
and get this, i m not implying that my kong will be on the side of the xilliens...

I think the gorilla/yeti route would be more interesting, but that's just me.
Shoulder Mounted Plasma Cannon eh? Sounds like Kong is taking advice from the Predator, lol. That'd be something different. Would that replace the electricity thing? (If your version still has that)
A redo of KK vs. G would be an awesome concept to revisit. So, are you implying that Kong would be with the Xilliens ; )?

I think when you said you weren't implying he was on the side of Xilliens you were trying to say that just because he's fighting Godzilla doesn't mean he's with the Xilliens. I didn't realize that until later.
I'll have to check out the gorilla zoid. I feel the electricity thing is unique to Toho's Kong, and should be applied to yours (if you so choose ; )
But the Yeti/Gorilla route would be interesting, IMO; separating him from any other giant ape.

well, Zbrush is associated with Maya right? I believe that the blender foundation made their product compatible with all things Maya. At least, when transferring projects. Although, I may be incorrect. It might be Cinema 4D that I am thinking of. Either way. you probably wouldn't want to try rigging that model. You would have to remodel it to get the rigging correct.

The art is wonderful, the textures look great and the face is terrifying.
But the body shape is just not one I enjoy, I'm sorry to say. I think you went a bit overboard in making him fat and chunky. The arms now look useless, and the legs just don't look like they would hold him up. They're a hell of a lot better than a lot of dinosaur stance Godzilla designs I've seen, but for how fat you made him, they're still too thin.
So, again, wonderful, wonderful artistic skills, I love the texture of his skin and the detail is just some of the most amazing stuff I've seen. I think you are an amazing artist-I just don't enjoy the design.
