Description Alright everyone, here's what all your critiques, opinions and suggestions have added up to. This is a full body drawing of Hybrid Godzilla 2000 and generally I'm pretty pleased with it. The real bitch with this guy was his head. I had to redo the thing about three times before it settled into something I liked. The only other trouble spot was the spines, as its kinda hard to figure out exactly where they are from this angle. I'm on a time crunch right now so I'll lay out the features as a list:

Head: Combination of Genesis, Shinsei, and Neo. 12 fangs in all the right places. Double row of teeth. A small horn ontop of the cat muzzle and nostrils. A long, reptilian head with a tiny ear in the back. Brow is divided into three rows of spines, the sides forming his distinctive eyebrows. The eye is a combination of Heisei and Neo. Has chin horns similar to FW concept's and cheek scales like the Neos. Face shares same scale texture as arms.

Neck: Like the originals only with an armored gullet leading into his sternum. Neck is short and surrounded by rows of spines. Sides are fleshy with scaled plates running along the backside and bordering the back spines.

Chest: Pebbly texture with a large pectorial area and an armored sternum covering the third chamber.

Arms: Genesis's shoulder spikes were added and changed into blade like ridge spines. These also glow when breath is charged. Scale texture is like the Genesis's arms with four claws at the end. Arms are longer than normal and have the FW Concept's forearm scale blades.

Torso: Developed abs instead of large belly. I went for a medium thickness in terms of width. Not too thin, not too bloated. Belly texture is same as chest, sides are same texture as arms. Upright posture.

Legs: Most of the Hybrids bulk is made here. Large, heavily built muscles instead of bulging rolls of skin. Mostly humaniod in shape. Foot is slightly digitigrade with four heavy foot claws. Shins are guarded with spiky scale armor that goes up his leg but breaks at the knee. Knees are smooth. Skin texture is like the Heisei.

Tail: Combination between Neo and Shinsei. Armored plates over pebbly skin. Single line of razor spines go down the tail and briefly enlarge over the gator like fluke. Tip is pointed. Tail is about twice as long as body, drags behind in classic manner. Thick and powerful.

Back: Spines are Shinsei, three rows starting at the lower neck, enlarging down the back and shrinking toward the base of the tail. From here they converge into a single row of razor spines as mentioned in the tail section. Flesh covers the sides of most spines. Spines glow reddish orange when breath is charged.

Colors: Skin is a dark green. Claws are either bone colored or pearly white. Belly maybe a darker or lighter shade of the green that colors the skin. Eyes are amber colored with red whites. Spines are deep purple near the root and gradually become tinted red at the tips. Tongue and gums are red to deep crimson.

If general consensus decides this version works, I'll use it as the basis for the SD. Again, feedback is welcome and encouraged.

This is my favorite Godzilla on Deviant Art. But maybe it's time to look into another hybrid because put "Godzilla redesign" into Deviant Art search and see what comes up. Maybe it could be called "Godzilla 2014" for upcoming reboot by Legendary Pictures.

By the way what are your fears for that movie?

RenDragonClaw In reply to Sabor335 [2013-06-18 03:15:38 +0000 UTC]

Hrm...possibly. If I decided to do another Godzilla Hybrid in the future I'd pull from newer sources.

I don't feel...anything about the movie right now. Speculation everywhere and everytime some minor casting decision is made or dropped some dumbass has to upload their grand discovery into the Kaijufandclub. I'm more irritated with it than anything. But, I do have a bit of optimism for this new film as they are giving the impression that it's being done more in the spirit of original film. Which was by and large a horror film. They can stick another monster in there if they wish because that's how Godzilla evolved into the neutral engine of nature's wrath that his today but there is a sense of gravity to film 'Gojira' that I hope is made readily apparent in the reboot. The actual design of Godzilla can go either way though as long as it reads 'monster' and not 'giant dinosaur of unusual size with spines taped to its back that breathes fire', I'll be content.

I reserve judgement until I actually see the film or at least a half way decent trailer.

You can get my thoughts here:[link]

My thoughts are in the OP. Needless to say, I'm scared for this movie. As a matter of fact the recent influx of redesigns is kind of fallout from news about this movie.

RenDragonClaw In reply to Sabor335 [2013-06-19 05:44:54 +0000 UTC]

The redesigns are coming out from that snippet of a trailer and the ambiguity of what Godzilla looks like. I'm entirely neutral until I actually see it. The cast means nothing to me. If their chemistry and acting chops work out, great. If not, its not like the franchise set an all too high bar to begin with. A little more clarification on what 'scifi elements' refers to would be nice but the original Gojira was a serious film. People going into this just to see explosions and pop culture references might be disappointed if the film is heading that direction. I'll probably enjoy it either way.

Finally got around to commenting on this one

First off, I loved this design, perhaps even more than the KaijuLord design. It is bulky yet still has the look of speedy potential, I LOVE the spikiness, and the slight dinosaur features.

I'm definitely digging the chest and abdomen's musculature, as well as the subtle digitigrade legs.

My only nit pick are the back spikes, I have always disliked the purple coloration on G 2000's spikes and they seem a bit too big, even for G 2000. Other wise, this design is PERFECT.

On a crazy little side note, this design reminds me of the Tarantino Godzilla idea for some reason... (imagines this Godzilla bloodily disemboweling and incinerating a giant bug).

RenDragonClaw In reply to Gareku [2010-06-05 03:02:21 +0000 UTC]

Lol, yeah the spines are a bit much but what I ended up doing was just some purplish tones near the base of the spines rather than the whole thing. The magenta/pink spines of the early 2K Goji's second showing drove me up a wall. Red I can deal with, blue has always been associated with Godzilla and white was his original breath color but the near pinkness of his spines in his game incarnations made me shake my head.

Did you have some erasor marks from redoing the head,if not, what did you use for the drawing?

RenDragonClaw In reply to a15godzilla [2009-08-01 20:55:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure I may of had some eraser marks lol. I do remember messing with that head quite a few times before getting it right. I use a mix between mechanical pencils and good ole Photoshop. This allows me to darken the lines after scanning them without inking them by hand (and possibly losing some detail) and erase and stray marks on the page if I find them. I find the best pencil lead sizes to use for drawing are .05 and .03. They allow me to do some really detailed work on a small space like the 8.5x11 paper I have to use in order to scan it.

Just wanted to know,I want to have he right things If I ever submit art,and why buy an art book when you can ask the masters,I was thinking about getting a sketch book though, and maybe a book on on to draw cityscapes and landcapes.

RenDragonClaw In reply to a15godzilla [2009-08-02 02:23:46 +0000 UTC]

Buying an art book that is made by a professional isn't what I'd call a waste of time lol. I have several dozen of them covering everything from anatomy to anime.

A sketch book is almost mandatory for this kind of field. Though most of my stuff is done on seperate pieces of paper as I hate tearing apart my sketch books and they don't scan well anyway. Cityscapes and landscapes are definitely something to look into. photos do a pretty good job but as they say: they best way to learn how to draw is to draw straight from life. At least until you're able to visualize things in your head.

I have drawn things I see straight from life, not a lot,but I can usually visilize things in my head,I have a hard time drawing complete picures with backgrounds and such, cause it ca drai alot of drawing power, and I have to look up references online or in books, but that helps me remember to put certain details in,one thing that hs irritated me was following drawing steps to make a certain character or object,I find It Easier to do it by looking at a picture and drawing it,thn tryn more different positions, like you do.

RenDragonClaw In reply to a15godzilla [2009-08-02 05:42:33 +0000 UTC]

starting with basic shapes for things you don't know how to draw is always a good place to start but it does get more and more tedious as you go along. Eventually you have to start just free handing this stuff just to make your experience more effecient. For an Artist, time is definitely money so its a valuable skill to come up with stuff quickly.

What it really comes down to is just practice. The more you do it the easier it gets. I can draw monsters and the like off the top of my head but things like cars and the like I always need a reference for. The best thing I've found when trying a complicated piece is to plan it out lightly with your pencil and then draw your stronger lines when your sure you have your parts where you want them. Saves a lot of time and frustration spent on redoing the same position over and over again.

O_O I've seen the GODZILLA 2000 STUDY thing, and I see you got through with criticising each of them. But THIS bad boy just TAKES the cake, LITERALLY! I just might use this design for my series! Though the spikes and stuff... That's gonna be difficult as all hay!
But this rederation/hybrid is just about perfect in my eyes! ...Just bad@ss...

Yep, G2000 has a shit load of big, jagged spines. They're his trademark . He's a nice hybrid Godzilla that mixes most of the best qualities from the versions listed without looking like a copy of them, I'm rather proud of how he came out. Thanks .

Not bad. Not a fan of the croc tail, but you made it look decent on him. I think he's a tad bit too spikey, but that's just me. Hundred times better than most Goji redesigns.

I knew this one wouldn't exactly be up your alley but I hope that the version I'm working on for our art trade will be. I did try to keep most of his bulk with this one, its kinda hard to make him take up alot of space without making him look like a porker but I think I managed to do that with both of them more or less.

You'll just have to wait a while for me to get around to coloring yours .

The-Great-MM In reply to RenDragonClaw [2008-09-23 02:24:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like it. It's upright, doesn't look like it would be broken in half in battle, and actually looks intimidating. Also about as thin as I can stand Godzilla: GXMG-amount, which is still decent enough to prevent him from looking like an anorexic dinosaur. I really like the nose thing with the smoke. Makes me tempted to give that to my Godzilla. I give it an 8.5 on kickassery scale.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RenDragonClaw In reply to The-Great-MM [2008-09-23 04:41:03 +0000 UTC]

Thats good, I had hoped that he was a good medium weight and all. The smoking thing I got from Matt's Grrrrr picture of his Godzilla's profile, it also had the venting nostrils. Kinda makes you wonder why he never did that in the series with all that atomic breath he was blasting. The spines probably siphoned most of the excess heat from the attack but there must have still been fumes of somekind. They'd probably be red flavored in this case since his breath is red.

GREGOLE [2008-09-22 17:56:28 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I think this is damn near perfect.

But as always, I do have a few minor issues here and there.

I like the spikiness, but I think you might've gone overboard here and there. Personally, I like the idea of his skin being pebbly and scaly, with most of the spiky scales being concentrated at the back. It feels more like both a dinosaur and Godzilla that way.

Besides that, my only other complaint would be the coloration. Dark green is good, but I think he needs more grey. Red spike tips just don't really sit well with me. I know Millenium Godzilla was designed for the X-TREME generation, but I think incorporating red into Godzilla's design just overdoes it.
What I personally would do, would keep his dorsal fins grey or dark purple at the core, and have them taper into lighter and lighter shades of grey.
The dark green skin is fine, but I think a grey-green underbelly is more desirable than a light green one. This is the first suit that's actually green, afterall. Godzilla's always had a lot of grey to him, and I think that needs to be preserved.
