Description Gojira Concepts

I have only shown half of the drawings.
Study 4 was gonna be the final, but decided to give it more mass and make it more a bull.

But I am happy how it progressed...

Very cool. Are those flipper arms on Study 3A/B? Interesting if so, but it's probably for the best that you ditched them. I can only imagine the fan backlash on that one.

While the mammalian face and maybe-flipper arms on 3B aren't really my thing, but I do enjoy the overall build it has. It's a perfect example of why the theropod bodyplan shouldn't be treated with such universal disdain by Godzilla fans; it can work perfectly fine when it's done right. I think the key is to keep Goji's sense of mass and enormity intact, and you did that very well here.

Same goes for 4, which is my favorite of the bunch. The fins are iffy to me, but everything else I love. I think the loose skin on the throat and underbelly gives it an even greater impression of weight than 3, and the low slung tail and head that's almost mammalian but not quite lend it a very retro look; I can't help but be reminded of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, which is a pretty fitting reference, I think.

Not really flipper arms, just looked like from the quick sketching. but there are big fins at the bakc of the arms.

study 4 was the light in the tunnel. i thing that was done more than a year before i finalized the design.

there something i like about the mammalian godzilla face, though i have strong biases with full reptilian features. i think it gives reptilian monsters a more beastly warm blooded active character.

beast from 20,000 fathom has a big influence in my design, also the dragon from 7th voyage of sinbad.

i am curious chris, which of the g suits is your favourite? i am guessing the millenium?

thanks for the comment man.

Ahh okay, that makes sense. I like mammalian features for Godzilla too, just in moderation.

I'm not sure which suit is my all-time favorite, but I liked the 1973-1975 suit they used in the Showa days, most of the Heisei suits, and GMK Godzilla. I liked the body on Millenium Goji, but I'm not a big fan of the way his face looks.

So, if the Happy Destructor ate that mushroom, would he have gotten bigger and turned into the final product? Heh.

Gonna' agree with here - not exactly how I would have done it myself but still a fund design and nice to see people thinking outside of the box

i think the theropod stance is the best non traditional way to represent G. yes it was a fun design and a challenging one.
thanks matt.

Personally, I would have liked it slightly better if the chest were smaller, but just a little, and if the fins had more of a curve toward the back.

That said, despite my minor criticisms, I think this is absolutely brilliant. I still think the really thick 'Zilla is a strange direction, but in this version, it fits much better. Overall, I say this is an overwhelming success.

i am a fan of the chesty godzilla, but i am open to tweaking as the series progresses.
and i agree with the fins.

i think the best non traditonal way or designing a godzilla suit is to have a theropod stance.

thanks leonard.

I absolutely agree with the stance. Long before I knew about this "redesign" thing that is so common on deviantArt, I usually drew him more like this.
