I like the way you have hybridised the features of a lacewing fly, a mantis and a butterfly for the appearance of Emperor Mothra. What would make the look complete is if the wings were translucent like stained glass to give a kind of ethereal feel.
Very good.

If Mothra ever appears in any of the new Godzilla movies (and yes, I'm hoping that Legendary makes at least a couple!), than I really hope they use your Emperor/Empress Mothra design cos that looks awesome! It looks like it could be scary/terrifying, but awe-inspiring at the same time - I guess it comes down to lighting.

Godzilla, Anguiurus and Gorgo in that order.
Attended G-Fest and have several figures. Seen and own all the movies.
Also have an original 60's Aurora plastic Godzilla figure that I held onto since I was a tyke.

The reboot should use the Empress Mothra design.

If they decide to make Mothra a male.
Thanks.

Actually, Mothra Leo was originally a male, though apparently they decided to make him genderless. I might be off slightly, though. But Leo was a male until the changed him to Rainbow Mothra.

I always thought that there wasn't mush you could do to the design of a giant moth, but apparently I was wrong.

These are interesting designs, and well done, I just have a hard time seeing them as Mothra.

Not sure really. It's Mothra, but a really weird one.
Then again, I don't care much for Mothra, so maybe mutating her a bit is an improvement. Just get rid of the midgets, please.

I like most of the designs here. It would seem to me that the "Emperor Mothra" would be male, as the shape of the body and wings appear more masculin then femanine (I don't really know how to spell it, though I might have spelled it correct unintentionally
). You did a really good job on them.

Thats one of the reasons why that design didnt go through. i think its kinda cool to have a male mothra, but i decided to do stick with a feminine mothra.
Thanks for commenting.

It would be good to have another male Mothra (since there's only two known male Mothras; Battra, and Mothra Leo). I recomend that you work further with the design, as it's too good to just draw it once (or twice). And you're welcome.

Of all this series, I think the various incarnations of Mothra are my favorites. It might have something to do with her visual simplicity, but of all these stylistic experiments, this one feels the most like it could work as a legitimate redesign. While I normally don't like to deviate too far from the source material, something about these various designs just seems to strengthen what's already there. The slinky, reptilian shape of the central design catches my eye the most. It feels alien, strange, eldritch, yet elegant and beautiful... A beautiful, mysterious... thing. Like a traditional fairy, elevated to a greater scale.
