Description
Son of the Taurus of Crete and Queen Pasiphae.
A Creature with the Head of a Bull over the Body of a Man.
It dwelt in the center of a Labyrinth, an elaborate building erected for King Minos of Crete, and designed by architect Daedalus and his son Icarus specifically to house the creature, dying at the hands of the Athenian Hero Theseus.
After assuming the throne of Crete, Minos began fighting his brothers for the right to rule the island. He then pleaded with the Sea God Poseidon to send him a Snow White Bull, as a sign of approval for his reign. Minos was supposed to sacrifice the bull in honor of the god, but he decided to keep it due to its immense beauty. For her failure to keep her promise and as a way of punishing Minos, the Goddess Aphrodite caused Pasiphae, Minos wife, to fall madly in love with the bull. Pasiphae then asked the archetypal artisan Daedalus to build her a wooden cow in which she could hide inside, so that she could copulate with the white bull. The offspring of this cross was the monstrous Minotaur.
