Description  The BMP is an amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle. The acronym BMP stands for "Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty" which is basically "Infantry Fighting Vehicle" in Russian. In 1966, Russia introduced its first mass-produced infantry fighting vehicle. Soviet military leaders knew that weapons of mass destruction would be the main weapons of war if tensions between them and the United States got hot, so they devised the BMP as a cross between APC and light tank. The vehicle came with a lead-lined interior to protect its crew and passengers as it traveled through contaminated environments. This BMP variant, the BMP-2, it was introduced in 1980 to replace the BMP-1 and is armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon. It is operated still by Russia, and many other countries such as: India, Iran, Finland, Angola, and Ukraine.
