Description
She broods alone in the corner of a french cafe, nursing her wounds (emotional and physical) with a cigarette and a glass of absinthe. ...Oh can we possibly get any more dramatic? No, but seriously, this is a combination of a Degas painting and my own concept, using one of my favorite models. It's slightly sinister, atmospheric and leaves a lot of room for interpretation as to what exactly is going on.Related content

this is stunning painting. Absinthe theme has become significant for me lately. I am writing research related to absinthe as a motive of 19th and 20th centuries art. I would gladly like to paste your work in my research, if you allow me. I certainly will give your credits. My research doesn't have any commercial use, I do it for my own interest and my art studies. Would you agree to help me in such way? thank you

Doesn't look at all like Degas, much more like Otto Dix 'Portrait of Sylvia von Harden'(1926). Still it's quite good.

Beautiful and impressive... I don't know why, but she makes me think of a modern version of Zola's L'Assomoir, perhaps it's the french atmosphere or the glass of absynthe.

Oh my o.o this is just very beautiful. awesome and strong gesture, framed by her hair, i love her eyes, and her pose, seems like she was caught in the middle of a movement. reflections on the window and on the table look beautiful. i like the blush on her cheeks, her hands/arms look very proportional, very correct and her blouse. o.o *stares and stops worshipping* I have to this now

How is that relevant? I'm not trying to be an asshole here ,but nowhere in the description does it say "extremely feminine girl with delicate bone structure". In other words, there's no reason why she can't look a little bit masculine.I haven't been misleading or purported to do something that I didn't accomplish.
Is it just that you find that unappealing? If that's the case, then okay, cool , fine. But as I said to someone else who mentioned that she looks a bit like a man, this is how my friend looks and I was trying to do a portrait of *her*. To this end, I think I succeeded.

Thank you! I know what you mean..I,personally refuse to give in to doing digital artwork. I like to get my hands dirty, to really get in there and sculpt when I'm sculpting, paint when I'm painting etc., not just click away on a mouse until I've got carpal tunnel.
Not that I don't appreciate what digital artists do (there are many great digital artists!) I just prefer traditional methods. I want to keep the art of real painting alive as long as I can.

I like it, but I think you could tint it a little more green to make the absinthe-ness more 'overpowering'.

Now there's an idea I never thought of
Absinthe was a little more grreen than Mountain Dew, I believe, but who can tell? THe stuff was banned ages ago =]

Lenea In reply to FelixKilldeer [2006-05-17 02:10:35 +0000 UTC]
Well it depends on what kind of absinthe you have. Some is more watered down than others. I think you're right that it's missing something in the painting though. I might not need to necessarily be more green, but it just needs to sparkle a little bit more or something...
