Hey! It differs from one drawing to another- it depends on the physical size of the file, the textures needed to be painted and the amount of detailing I put. It could be 30 minutes and two hours

Did you paint the color on top of the shading with overlay or did you already have the base before shading? Or maybe you put the shading on multiply on top of it?

The color layer is beneath the shading layer (which is on multiply mode)

OK. Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to try this method with what I'm working on.

cinni-mon.deviantart.com/art/O⦠here's what i did using some of your tips, i think it turned out rather nice (though not nearly as nice as yours), thnx again
i do have a question though, how do you get the shading to show up better on dark hair/how to add highlights?

Turned out very nice! Great job! i am glad the tutorial helped you! Β
For the darker areas, just use darker color for the shadings themselves, although youll have to use that same color for all the other parts, because otherwise it wont be logical physics-wise. (its not obligatory, its just what i do)
For highlights, I open a new layer on top of the shading layer, I set it on Overlay mode - and then just use a fuzzy brush with light yellow or any other light color (sometimes i use pure white) and add lightness to the areas where the lightsource hit
I hope that helps!

How do you make it go from greyed/shaded to completely colored or is there another tutorial? Β
π: 0 β©: 1
LeoNoy In reply to lilywolftail [2013-07-18 08:23:15 +0000 UTC]
I do the coloring on a separate layer, and while i shade i hide it so the colors and markings of the character won't distract me. the line-art-layer is the toppest, the shading is in the middle and the color layer in lowest- when i finish shading i just click the unhide-layer-button and the colors appear

Thank you so much! Β I know a lot of people tend to get complicated or miss a step so I'm always lost when it goes from greyed to colored. Β Thanks again and keep up the amazing work
